Dry icing won't touch the underside of your car Snak, it's too heavily corroded for ice, to do it properly it needs stripping, parts and any floor areas need soda blasting, then painting with POR 15 like Reddish use, awesome stuff. I'm doing exactly that with my black M Roady as it's about the same as yours underneath, just taken delivery yesterday of a new two post ramp so I'll be on with it very soon.Snakobs wrote: ↑Wed May 10, 2023 10:00 am To Pick up where I left off.. BC coilovers and more goodies are fitted. The BC's have completely transformed the car and I am blown away with how much better the car deal with a B road bash, recently took it to Caffeine and Machine and it was a joy where as before it was a little sketchy. Anyway whilst apart the car asked very nicely for a set of Hardrace camber arms as the old ones were desperate.
The overall surface rust and condition of underside does completely stress me out and the underside will need a full renovation and underseal before I can rest easy.. I will have to get some Lanoguard on order and make a proper project of it with dry icing the underside etc! Think that the underbody restoration may jump priority but the new parts are fitted until I get to that. Hardrace camber arms and BC's fitted:

The alignment was next, string method of course, 1.5 degrees camber on front and 2.5 degrees on rear. I tried more on the front but was too grabby for daily driving. Ride height is at the limit of dailying as well bordering on scraping but getting away with it:

Also spray painted the silver door card pulls as I didn't like them, nothing more to say on that haha

Test fitted the 3D printed boost gauge mount (a sneak peak at ling term plans with this car).. nothing more to be said on this till I decide supercharger or turbo.

Finally fitted a fire extinguisher, I know I did a seperate post on this but foe the sake of cleanliness I like keeping it all on one thread for my own sanity if nothing else

I feared it may be a corn or soda blast job which ideally needs to be every exploded piece by piece not done on the car.. just made a big job colossaljohn-e89 wrote: ↑Wed May 10, 2023 10:28 am Dry icing won't touch the underside of your car Snak, it's too heavily corroded for ice, to do it properly it needs stripping, parts and any floor areas need soda blasting, then painting with POR 15 like Reddish use, awesome stuff. There was a company I found up in Doncaster which use 3600psi to clean the underside then bake it for 24 hours to dry out before cavity wax then apply a thixotropic underbody coating, something like Dinitrol I think off memory from the phone call. Roughly £1000 to outsource to them but they don't strip much off the car it is done in site so that's questionable.

John you have done an impeccable job on those Cosworth parts! Absolutely concourse condition. You will have Z4's queueing at your door to get their undersides restored Seems like you're the go to man for questions when I get stuck!

I'm not going to rubbish anyone Snak but all I'll say is a grand is a grand and is ok for what it is, but the corrosion is still there, unless it's soda blasted off longevity comes very much into question. It's purely my opinion but it's a sticking plaster over a broken arm. I'm afraid it's the same old story, you get what you pay for.Snakobs wrote: ↑Wed May 10, 2023 10:44 amI feared it may be a corn or soda blast job which ideally needs to be every exploded piece by piece not done on the car.. just made a big job colossaljohn-e89 wrote: ↑Wed May 10, 2023 10:28 am Dry icing won't touch the underside of your car Snak, it's too heavily corroded for ice, to do it properly it needs stripping, parts and any floor areas need soda blasting, then painting with POR 15 like Reddish use, awesome stuff. Cheers Snak, it's a concours car he's building, it's pretty much finished so he's bringing it up for pics on the ramp for his album and to put out at shows, looks incredible under it.

Car looks amazing!
Looking forward to the updates and following along! Wish I had more knowledge of how and what to do! Always struggle with confidence to get started but would love to get my hands dirty.
