I have recently acquired an Eventuri intake for my Z4M Coupe and am very happy with the improved throttle response and sound. The driving experience has been transformed, the car feels more eager to be driven hard and is much happier approaching the redline than it was with the standard airbox. I imagine the sound would be even more enjoyable in a roadster!

Eventuri is the way to go from a sound point of view. It's brilliant.

Having said that I have not experienced the AFE which has a much larger air filter. The only thing that worries me about the eventuri is the little simota air filter.

Yeh I thought that too, smaller filter element than the OE air box surely.

Eventuri say no need to oil. Simota say you can oil the filter in dusty areas so i plan to lightly oil the filter. My current filter on the intake is not oiled so when i take it out to cleas i will replace with an oiled one. I only hope its dirty when i remove it. Other aftermarket filters i have used never seem to get dirty which means the dirt goes straight through.

I had an aFe intake for many years and it made a great sound. It was loud enough under load to sound really purposeful, but not enough to drown out my Remus back boxes. This intake / exhaust combination added bass to the S54 intake rasp and treble to the screaming exhaust at 8k rpm with plenty of pops and bangs on the overrun once the exhaust was hot.
Unfortunately, the heat shields around the cone filter started to corrode under the powder coating, so I decided to replace it. I now have a GruppeM which looks far better than the aFe heat shields, but the sound is a little anaemic in comparison. I’m a somewhat disappointed because the GruppeM on my RS4 sounds incredible. Interestingly, I’ve had no MAF issues with either intake on my Zed but my RS4 needed a remap to prevent very occasional check engine lights (it’s now running at c. 450bhp, so it was worthwhile).
If you want great induction sound for a relatively small outlay, I’d recommend the aFe intake. If it’s under bonnet pornography your seeking, then the GruppeM fits the bill. If you want both and can justify the expense, a CSL-style air box is the best of both worlds.

Nicely done! A couple of caveat, though.
1. Make sure whatever material that's used to print that MAF housing is able to withstand the engine bay heat.
2. The OE box has an "air straightener" screen for proper MAF reading. If your engine isn't running properly with this new setup, you may need to incorporate that screen into your MAF housing. For example, the aFe intake, which is a similar design requires you to transfer that screen over from the OE box.

1) yeh I figured this may be a problem, so will just monitor for any obvious deteriation.
2) hmmm, how annoying. Do we know if the screen can be removed from the OE box in a non-destructive way and be put back on later?

If I recall, the screen is attached to the top half of the airbox and is held in by either 2 or 4 screws.

I've been speaking to some other Beemer owners who have warned of A/F mixture warning lights after changing to aftermarket intakes. Fingers crossed the straightener will stop that.
