Is this spoiler factory fit…?

Post by john-e89 » Tue Mar 21, 2023 9:49 am

Hey,

Does anyone know if these bootlid spoilers are a factory fit from an option list at the time…? Not sure I like it, it’s not horrific but I’d like to get it off so I can decide, i can’t see any bolts for it so I’m assuming it’s bonded on, I’ve had a gentle try at removing it but it’s well stuck on there hence my question. Last thing I want to do is damage the bootlid and have to paint it as the rest of the car is original paint. Hot water and cheese wire with a slowly slowly catchy monkey method I guess.

I know what you mean, not a fan of spoilers.
no expert, but you will do well to remove it without damaging paintwork, but it depends what they used.
as you say, some gentle heat may loosen enough to remove...

It is the OEM Aero spoiler and you are correct it is bonded on. It will be difficult to remove without damaging the boot. If you do decide to remove it, I would be interested in purchasing it as I also have an imola red M and I like the look.

Well I understand that you'd both want to keep your cars original, but why not simply swap boot lids?

That is the only way to do it. I removed one and had to put it back as the paint underneath was mank after the removal

Top layer (clear coat) was attacked by the glue, so even after polishing you could see where it had been (like a shadow).

FWIW I think it’s one of the best spoiler / car bottom combos..even though it’s not small I always smile when I see one out..but each to their own..
We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard…

Personally, I marginally prefer the clean look, but not to the extent that’d I’d be trying to remove the spoiler - especially if it left the factory like that.

Your photo has reminded me that I desperately need to clean my exhaust tips though!
