2010 Auto brake pedal

Post by t90ark » Wed Mar 15, 2023 6:38 pm

The brake pedal in car has a lot, well I think it's a lot, of side to side 'play'.

Any other auto drivers experienced this?

I'm guessing it's bushes or similar. I'll get on Real OEM see if I can see what's what.

So after some digging around, it appears to be a fairly common issue.

It seems BMW fit rubber bushes that are inadequate for the job. There are plastic bushes available which help, apparently.

I have a DCT with the 'auto' brake pedal. (Which I don't use since I've installed the aux LFB pedal.) That said, the OEM brake pedal has no play whatsoever.

Last mot I had an advisory on the same thing 2010 3.0si, personally did not think it was too much movement

Changed to the new plastic bush, fiddly job

White one was the new one

I had an attempt at replacing the bushes in mine yesterday. Quickly established either the car is too small, or I'm too big

Did you move anything out the way to get at the clip that retains the pedal?

I took the trim out but it is really awkward job and not a 2 minute one

So, I replaced the bushes on the brake pedal with some oilite bushes instead of the OEM plastic. Well, when say 'I' ... had some help from my brother who is a somewhat smaller in stature than me

What. A. Job!!

No movement in the pedal now, though... and a job that won't have to be done again.

Now, if I can just find the leak into the boot....
