My car saga continues....

Post by Pondrew » Sat Mar 11, 2023 9:15 pm

So....it's been nearly a month since I have been carless (yes we have the Z4 and a daily but not 'mine'). I have bought a motorbike in the last few weeks which is in bits in the garage awaiting parts, but that is unimportant.

I thought I would quite like a 'modern classic' car, as I don't drive much these days and like to tinker with stuff..
I thought I would look at XJSs, Stags, etc. Well that hasn't worked, as prices are all over the shop and piles of rust are being touted for £10k plus.

So my search morphed into the Jag XK8 (even though my sister had an early XKR which was truly terrible). They are being bandied as the next 'big' modern classic, so my wallet thought they make sense.I have done a lot of reading about them and decided a later, 2002 onwards with the 4.2 engine, were OK. Then looking into them further found even later ones with low miles are utter rust buckets!

So I started looking at the later XK (X150) cars. Aluminium bodies, so rust on the surface not a problem. Parts are surprisingly cheap if you avoid JLR. So I thought an early 4.2 n/a would suit me fine. Then (me being me) thought "for a couple of grand more I could get the XKR version".

So as we stand today, I am going to look at the one in the link below next week!

I must be getting old or mental, or both! :D

Do you go through the web and search for the ugliest cars you can find? :poke:

You won’t last two months with that

Just go for the DB9 instead, same base but so much nicer looking.

Double the buying cost, and 10x the running cost. Even YOU couldn't afford AM parts, mate! :o

I like them both! And a Kwaka Z1000 (2006). Needs a bit of an overhaul!

It's a V8 and a classically beautiful car (the front end is not the best TBH, though IMO). Ticks many of my boxes.
Funny how we all have different ideas; I suppose it's a good thing?
For me the E85/86 are two of the ugliest cars on the road, and the Z3 even uglier, but there we go, ETTO.

That's the car equivalent of a 'ten-to-elevener' (the type of bird usually seen through beer goggles left in the pub worth trapping off with before chucking out time)

Fekin hideous mate, but we all want you to buy it for the comedy and pi$$-taking value alone.
Gowon, do it.

Looks good to me, and it'll sound pretty great too. You'll even be reunited with wood interior...

You didn't need to elaborate, I think we all know what an 'eleven pinter' is...

An XK is not one of those, though! You can't educate pork! :poke:
