Excessive road noise on passenger side.

Post by javis20 » Thu Mar 09, 2023 5:33 pm

I had occasion to be in the passenger seat, when my wife drove my 2011 e89. The road noise is drastically louder on that side. Almost sounds like there is no insulation between my ear and the tire.
Anyone else experience this?

From the driver’s seat I find the road noise is definitely louder from the passenger side rear and my wife also says the same from the passenger seat. Don’t know why though.

Remember that the passenger side is generally adjacent to road furniture, garden walls, houses etc. All of these reflect tha noise the car makes back at you. You dont generally get this on the drivers side.
Another reason can be an ill fitting door/window on that side

Think your right with the way the sound is reflected.
I have noticed the same thing on my e85 and i am confident everything fits correctly on the car

Don't agree. I'm getting this loud road noise even on open highways with nothing on the passenger side, but open fields there, to reflect sound.

To me it sound like it's coming from the seat belt retractor area. Right behind my ear.

The exhaust is under the passenger seat, that's loud. Are the tyres a different make on the left?

I'd just solve this by telling her to get out of the car, turn up the tunes, and then drive myself. There are multiple types of noises from the passenger seat. :P

I noticed the same with mine when I bought it, not investigated that yet as I tend to have the tunes cranked up, however, will do at some point. I’d say a seal or window/door fit issue.

I think it’s the seat belt wind noise, I noticed that.
