Thanks sars, I’ve been threatening to do one for a while and when other members were looking for info I thought it would be a good time to try and help by sharing my thoughts and experiences

You are of course spot on, it is a great car and for our purposes I can’t see anything that would suit us better, even by increasing the budget it would have to go some to get me out of the Zed :driving:

I went to the dealers the other day to enquire about waiting times for one, guy reckoned 8-10 weeks for a new build. I had thought it would be more like 6-8 months or so, very surprised.

I asked the same question of my local dealer and they reckoned up to 6 months but that would quite likely shorten. Its interesting looking on Autotrader where there must be approximately a dozen brand new and in stock M40i's from BMW dealers across the UK. Also, they are all discounted by anything between £1K - £3.7K. For me it has to be Thundernight, Ivory White, Tectragon Aluminium trim and Shadowline Plus. I am still mulling over the various packs/individual options. I plan on test driving one in a couple of weeks when it looks as if the weather will be picking up. If all goes well I will place an order and then decide which avenue I will use to sell my Cayman and please don't anyone suggest We Buy Any Car as the price they have indicated is insulting. I may well start with Collecting Cars as the car is tip top in every respect.

Excellent news, sports + an essential if you really want it to dance, it’ll hold gear and redline without changing up, just like a manual  :driving:

Lengthy test drive completed this morning and a very happy boy. It's to be Thundernight with Ivory. Looking at various options and will hopefully have it nailed in the next few days. Thanks to everyone for your input and especially Argyll Andy.

Excellent choice ! The options I value the most on my car are the wind deflector (I think that is now standard), HUD, heated steering wheel (I drive roof down whenever practical), and HK sound system.

Cheers. I will probably go with the Shadow Line, Tech and Comfort Packs.

Colour choice/combo is very much what I’m considering
