2006 Sapphire Black E86 Manual - 141k Miles - £7,500 - Bilstein B12, Custom exhaust, Powerflex

Thanks Sam. Absolutely miles away (I’m in Cheshire) which is a huge shame. There’s no way I could get down to view for at least 2 weeks and I’m a bit old school in respect that I won’t buy a car unseen (that’s no reflection on you or your wonderful car by the way). I’ll keep your number and check in once I’m able to get down that way, but chances are you’ll have sold her by then. My apologies and thanks for your reply.

No need to apologise! Had guessed you were Cheshire based off the name, and I completely understand wanting to see a car first - I'm very much the same.
If it's still up on the forum, it'll still be available, so please feel free to reach out if you are able to make it down this way.

Honestly, not really. I'm in conversation with one gent who is trying to figure out when he's able to come and see it, but other than him & potentially CheshireF1, there's not been anything else.

I realise it's priced a bit higher than others given the mileage, but I've done so on the proviso that there's a lot of work that's been done and documented, as opposed to buying one that may require work in the near future.

We shall see what happens I guess!

Thanks for the kind words though :)

It’s a hard one, higher mileage seems to put off many buyers, which is a shame when the car has had a lot of work!

The problem is though that it is a challenge to insure the car at the value you paid for it. With the mileage, the insurance company will value the car at say £3k.

When I bought mine a couple of weeks ago with 90k on it, the car was up for 7k but the insurance value was £4k which is a risk I will have to take as that is what I would get back in case of an accident.
Current:
911-50 Black - unique spec
X5M - 575 hp of fun in a V8
Abarth 595 Comp.
Golf Clipper - collectors item
Z4 3.0si Black Sapphire
VW ID.3

Previous:
Z4M Silver Grey - non flimper spec (gone to Bing)
Z4 3.0 Toledo

Thats the same with most, when I insured my Z4M the base insurance value was like 8.5k its a 2006 with 73k on it. I would think its more like £14.5 - 15k. With it being a rare combo 1 of 3 cars brought to the UK that makes it even more difficult. When I went through the process I made sure the value was increased and more suitable, the downside you pay more for it.

My Mini Clubman JCW was stolen during the pandemic and it was less than 3 years old and had 20k miles on it. On the forecourt they were selling for 25-27k because of the shortage, the first quote from the insurance was £15k and after haggling the best they could do was £18.5.

Regardless of what you do you loose. At least it's 3-4k not 10k like it was in my case. Insurance is great until you need it then they rinse you.

Agreed, think it's a common thing in the UK. I always tend to buy on condition rather than mileage, but I think I'm in the minority there.

Both fair points about the insurance, I guess an agreed valuation is the only way to protect against that.

You get what you pay for with insurance. Most people only care about getting the lowest possible premium and which is then often reflected in the claims experience.

As I counter-offered it to someone on eBay, I'll extend the offer to here too, as I'd really like someone to continue documenting the journey of the car...

Anyone want it for £6,750?

If anyone is looking for a cheap coupe, they’re going to have to live with high miles. I would much rather have this one with all the work done, than one without (and to be honest the work done is not exactly reflected in the price).

Sadly I’m not a buyer, but if you have a 10-speaker system (DSP or not) it would be worth mentioning as this is a discriminator for some.

I'm surprised this hasn't sold.

I presume you've included a link in your listing to the build thread on here?

Mileage aside, it's clearly a looked after car, although I suppose folks will try to use that as a stick to beat you with regardless in the name of getting the lowest price they can.
