Second generation Honda Jazz 1.3/1.4 manual

Post by M1k3yC » Fri Feb 03, 2023 5:16 pm

I’m considering a second gen Honda Jazz as a dog car. Probably cars from around 2012 - 2014 and it would be a 1.4 manual (the 1339cc engine that you also see listed as a 1.3). Does anyone have experience with them, good or bad? The flexibility of the rear seat is one of the main attractions because it should give me lots of options to transport two people, a large dog, and plenty of luggage.

Thanks

May not give much insight but I’ve a neighbour who had a 2013 from new and outwith servicing, tyres and MOT has needed nothing. I went on holiday last year and when I came back he’d changed it. If I’d known I’d have been seriously considering buying it as a low cost local runaround and mover of various pieces of sh!te that I end up doing. Had about 70k on it iirc when he changed it.

My wife has 2014 Jazz for taking our grandchildren around. They are great little cars for this and the design of the rear seats and the various combinations make it a good choice for various task. They are not quick, but they are well built and reliable.

I think that keeping one for about 9 years is a good sign!

Thanks - I'm hoping I can get past the lack of power because everything else about them looks ideal for what I'm after.

Just be mindful these are top of the list for catalytic converter theft.

If you do get one, be sure to factor in the cost of a cat guard

My parents have had Jazz’s for a while and I have driven them a fair bit.

Not the most powerful things in the world and with 5 people and the AC on etc you’re not going to be breaking any records, but comfortable and quiet and generally very err… level.

There is nothing bad about them at all, very reliable and solid.

The rear space is awesome however. The seats fold down and the space is way better than our Golf which is much bigger.

There is a bit of a weird visibility issue around the A pillar / funny little window at the front.

But overall, as a do it all I can recommend them.

Wildfire, thanks - that's helpful. I went to look at an EX yesterday with a panoramic roof and leather. Nice car and the seat system should be useful but it had some strange paint damage either side of the windscreen on the A pillars and (for me) there wasn't enough detail in the service history. I'll keep looking. I expected the floor in the rear to be completely flat, though, as it's FWD, but it has a hump.
