Coupe Art Sculpture

Post by pp1600 » Tue Jan 31, 2023 12:37 pm

Over the years I have designed (CAD) many products, built my own CMM machine and used 3D laser scanning for everyone else...

I thought i would quite like a simple sculpture/model of the Coupe for myself .... might be of interest to some but I would like some feedback before I send the prototype off to be laser cut.

Thinking about a BMW logo and "M coupe or E86" cut-out on the stand base or just go plain?
Coloured perspex (Flourescent ?) with the "M" stripe ... quite like main body white with "M" stripe or a plain look with just 7T97 Neptune Blue perspex (see pic)? and a solid black base?
I removed the rear lights as it gave a rougher look to the rear but still not sure if it passes?
Which stand looks best out of the two?
3mm perspex or 5mm perspex? the model furthest away from"M" is 5mm (subtle difference)
1:1 scale but im thinking 1/10 scale (pic) works (411mm/190mm) ?

Or I could just bin it and do a Ford instead ! :D .... GT40! Ooo theres an idea...

Please do one for yourself, I'd love to see it, I'm sure many members would also very interested in one if you can work out logistics packaging and price.

I think that if you have an M the you will want the M and the same applies if you "just " have the E86 Coupe .

Coloured perspex (Flourescent ?) with the "M" stripe ... quite like main body white with "M" stripe or a plain look with just 7T97 Neptune Blue perspex (see pic)? and a solid black base?

Same again depends on what you have and colour I would want the colour of my car or maybe made in wood ?? Black base would be nice but dusting is going to be a nightmare

I removed the rear lights as it gave a rougher look to the rear but still not sure if it passes?

I like it without the lights .

Which stand looks best out of the two?

Round . I think :-|

3mm perspex or 5mm perspex? the model furthest away from"M" is 5mm (subtle difference)

I`ve always thought the smaller the model the smaller thicknesses but its hard to tell . They both look fine to me .

1:1 scale but im thinking 1/10 scale (pic) works (411mm/190mm) ?

That seems fine

Tomorrow sees the build finalised...

First impressions ... I love it :D
It is big and quite weighty at 1/10 scale.
And the base design was an obvious choice in the end....

Once all the protective film is removed it will show its true colours. Being 6T21 'glass look' its green tinted edge shows up lovely.

To get the fixings rods right and it all fitting together it was left wrapped in its protective coverings still.
The detail of the bonnet line, the screen, the water trap at the rear glass has come out really crisp and clear... too accurate these laser cutters. :D

Ive just finished uncovering it all and photos to follow shortly...its very green now....

Honestly looks better than in the photos!.. and reassuringly expensive :D Same old story of if theres a number interested then I can re-negotiate a better price...

Ive saved a lot through the forum money wise and information wise so I thought i'd give a little back and give one away free though... I have a question relating to the model, and all is needed is a sharp eye!, then first one in with the right answer sort of thing (mods approval of course) And you would have to be a current Z4 owner and a outstanding member of the Z4 community obviously. :D

Thought about it and looking into it. It will have to be a no fuss/tasteful way of getting around the interior. Drawing body =good.Drawing seats etc = bad.

Still waiting on the clear perspex spacers (white nylon in photo) for a transparent model.
It is big and still wondering if a smaller version would of been better?

We'll I'm certainly interested.

I wonder if a transparent one might lose some of the lines, as it were. Having a smoked one, or tinted in some way works well to see the changes in angles, etc.

There are some very nice tinted/smoked acrylics available. I went with the 'Glass look' 6T21 option which still requires the clear perspex spacers im thinking. The lines of the model are lost a bit in the pictures but in the flesh they do stand out very clearly. Ie both screen surrounds,Headlights,Bonnet lines and even the A-pillars and the front badge...

Obviously still interested in this based on my previous replies . Prefer the clear myself and if it could be in a colour close to Montego Blue . Would the orders for a discount all have to be the same or will we be able to specify colour etc

Been trying to nail the price down and options available so here goes...

There are many colours to choose from including solid/flourescent/tinted-transparent etc and you can specify which. I can assist if trying to match your own car...
The base is 3mm transparent acrylic which is engraved over a 3mm solid gloss colour of which you can specify(solid colour only). The model shown is 3mm 'glass look' acrylic(engraved) over a 3mm solid gloss black. Again to match your own car if needed..
The base can be engraved as an Z4M or Z4 Coupe. Im not changing the front and rear bumpers :D

The solid base colour will be engraved on the underside with my logo, a ref number (inc number plate if wanted) as a registered model.
The model will be sent in sectional form with all protective film attached. Fixing rods and all spacers supplied ready to fit. Simply a case of removing the film, sliding in the numbered sections and spacers and done.

If over 10 people are interested It will cost £185
if between 5 and 10 are interested it will cost £200
if below 5 it will cost £215.

Ive enjoyed doing it and have already finished over ten other models. The 'Roadster' im working on....
