04 Z4 3.0i update from autoshop

Post by fedbeast » Thu Jan 26, 2023 9:10 pm

So a little update, I decided to take my zed to a autoshop that was highly rated that worked on german cars specifically specializing in BMWS. Reason I took it here is to see if they could seal my right headlight that has condensation going on, and I knew it was a bad seal of the whole assembly, is because I ordered brand new back panels with the new gaskets from bmw, dried the moisture out and within 2 days later moisture reappeared, so only conclusion I had was to reseal that assembly with some aquarium epoxy sealer which from the research I did online was the best waterproof solution to this problem. The autoshop suggested to let them do a comprehensive full check on the car since I didn’t get it checked by a mechanic when I bought the car, and agreed because it was only $50. For them to check the headlight was $225. After the diagnosis, they found few problems, oil filter housing leaking oil (recommended replacing gaskets), front control arm bushing both were torn and needed replacing this was the issue of the sloppy handling. I agreed for them to fix the necessary changes, except for the headlights, they recommended new headlights for both, because they noticed some on the driver headlight too but wasnt that much of an issue, that would of cost me $4,500 for 2 headlight installation which i did not go with, i know it needs a new control module which i will replace tomorrow morning, the shipping just came in. And the total repair bill with a fresh oil change came out to $1980. So far on the individual parts I’ve collected to redo the headlight myself, ballast $120, control module $100, new back covers for both sides $36 each total $72, aquarium epoxy sealer $8.
