Bmw Z4 E85 rear window for hardtop

Post by Niek_Z4_2.5si_E85 » Thu Jan 19, 2023 1:33 pm

Hi everyone,

My hardtop flew off on the highway and now I'm seeing if I can get it fixed. The paint is ruined and the back window is broken.
I can't find a new rear window anywhere. Can anyone help me find a rear window for my hardtop? Or should I just move on and get another hardtop? PS I'm trying to get a picture of the hardtop in here. It should be in the added files.

Jeetje!
How the actual sh!t did it fly off in the first place?? Didn't you lock it properly?
You're pretty lucky not to havce sustained any injuries, or injure anyone else for that matter!

I recall a thread where someone managed to get a replacement window from Carglass or someone.
It's a long shot but remotely possible.
A cheap way of sorting the paint damage would be to smooth it down and wrap it. Otherwise you're looking at repair/respray which would probably cost more than a new 2nd hand one.
There are always a couple on Marktplaats.

Exaclty what I thought when it came off. Very happy nobody got hurt. The front lock wasn't closed all the way, but it feeled like it was locked in. Later we found out that if you pull really hard on it it comes off. I already contacted a service that can fix the damage. The only thing they need is a rear window. If carglass has it they can probably get it, but I think carglass doesn't have it either. Wrapping is not something I prefer. Might just have to move on and get a new one. That's 800 euros down the drain. Maybe I could sell it to someone for a hunderd or so.

    Am I missing something?
it has 3 strong locking points, which have gone through design/development and failure testing before a go for mass production, making them inherently safe for operation without any speed limitation.
are you dingoes just not securing them properly before driving off??

I actually meant 3 locking points for someone to lock, Mr Pedantic! But you're right, 4 interlocking locations.

The lock was not closed all the way. That's why we thought it was locked in correctly. Turned out when you pull really hard on it it comes straight off. A dumb mistake. From now on I'm pulling on it with all the strenght I have before this happens again.
