Yeah, I've shared with wifey links of proper burgs in the southwest of France for US$500,000. You know, master house, in-law house, guest house, stable, pen, swimming pool, football pitch, wine cellar, the works. And TBH, I could be happy as a lark with the mere guest house.

I am a positive type and think by this time next year things will improve.

Inflation will be half what it is now regardless of what any Govt does and the politically motivated strikes will be over with very little achieved.

Interest / mortgage rates will be back to 3 or 4 % and energy prices will still be high, thanks to the eco zealots, but lower than they are now.

It has and still is a tough time for some but I doubt it is as bad as the media make out. They say it's bad up here in the North East but every time we go out and about, shops and restaurants are full. We went for a breakfast at our local farm shop mid week recently which seats about 100. 9.30am and we had to queue for 20 mins for a table. Just tried to book a table for two at a decent Italian tomorrow and can't get a table before 8.30pm

Petrol is already 30p a litre cheaper than it was in May..

I agree about the media; they 'focus' on the people they want to. "Debbie is a single mum on benefits and is struggling to feed her ten kids AND get a new iphone. She is even contemplating cancelling either her Sky, Netflix, or Prime Video subscription" type of person. I'm sure Debbie would struggle no matter how much money she had TBH.

First thing you will notice is the lack of seats! :D

    I’m happy for you.

The 35is is a brilliant motor, but if yours is stock, you’ll quick realise is no proper sports car. It takes work to get there. But it’s a fun endeavour. There are some massively resourceful and generous folk on this site. Lean on them.

I hear what you are saying, but ultimate sports car isn’t what I’m looking for with it.

A Porsche or something super-light would always be better IMHO if that was the goal.

I’m happy with the mix of performance, looks, interior design - no need for more from my perspective.

It’s the car I think back on, off all the many cars I have had over the years, that I remember as special.

I’ve had faster & better handling, but this has something I cannot put my finger on :)

As I get older I think I can appreciate the imprefections more - overpowering the chassis at not too mental speeds at will is one of the best things I remember. There will be no nuremburgring for this car in my hands!

Glad to see that this underrated car is appreciated. It is a lot of fun to drive while being very versatile and pleasant to be in. The 35is is a great version having all the best options included.

I very much enjoyed my VO 35is and in many ways I miss it. More of a GT car than an out and out sports job, but 4.8secs 0-60mph it was certainly no slouch.

I only sold it because it was 7 years old and I just got the feeling it was going to be expensive to keep. I love my G29 but if I could have bought a new or a 3 month old ex demo 35is, I would have done so.

Was never drawn to the g29 z4. A better car in most ways for sure, but other than special seats just felt way too much of the BMW house design style was inv there.

    Dash, centre console, all the touch points very similar to a 1 / 2 / 3. / 4 series.

The e89 is more of a standalone design that just happens to wear a BMW badge.

I’m still surprised they ever made it.

You say that and yes it is true that the E89 isn’t a sharp as say a Porsche Boxster but it isn’t a million miles away, Clarkson and Jason Plato as well as other motoring journalists have stated that the E89 is a good handling car and in fact Jasón Plato actually owned one, Jason is a British race car driver and presenter of Fifth Gear in case you weren’t aware. But as you say with a few mods it can be made to handle better.

Sadly, James, nothing new here. It’s the good ole rat race for the next dollar. It’s a horrible state of affairs for a city that likes to call itself progressive.

New, the average 2016 35is was pushing US$80,000. More with all packages. That’s a lot of coin for a M-badged car that struggles in bends, downshifting and whatnot. Call me naïve, but I was expecting far better performance.

It sure was expensive in the US, in the UK it’s list price was around £43k before options but it was never an M car, so one shouldn’t expect M level of sharpness from it. the M badging is merely the trim level as it is on all other E89s regardless which engine option you pick, they were all available in either SE or M trim level.
