Anybody stay there?
Just been reading about the 15 minute cities that are being planned for 2024 but there seems to be videos out there that show it has started already.
Reading the plans it seems to have everything counted for except people leaving to go to their workplace.
It seems an utterly bonkers idea that is set to cater for the minority (30%) in Oxfordshire that apparently dont own any vehicles.

15 minute cities, hardly seems worth the effort, why not make it last a whole year :idunno:

:D It doesnt last for 15 minutes, you are restricted to travelling more than 15 minutes from your home.

Is it Oxfordshire, or around Oxford? Oxford City Council have been anti-car for at least the last 25 years.

Most of Oxfordshire is pretty rural, so can't see how they could make that work. :?

All I read was Oxfordshire, apparently going to create 6 x 15 minute cities.
Just wondered if its true or bull, and also if the stories of locals ripping up the barriers to get through are real also.
The thoughts seem to be that during covid people were restricted by where they went and survived so if it continued everybody would benefit by staying in a cleaner area.

Only been in Oxfordshire for 13 years so still just a noob, but they do hate cars. Just use the park and ride.

I think you're talking about the LTN zones which are very controversial. Lots of people ripping up bollards...

Oxford City and Oxfordshire County Council have been run by aging hippies ever since I can remember.
The WFH trend, one of the most affluent Counties in the UK (so councils have plenty of money) and their left-wing agenda add up to this type of shite IMHO.

Glad to be well out of it TBH. I now live in a County where laws are optional it would seem.

Whilst I don’t like the idea of zoned restrictions (it all sounds a bit ‘hunger games’ to me) having a more regular distribution of facilities for inner city living, could work out well if it was properly thought out.

Done correctly, you wouldn’t need to penalize people as they would automatically shop locally and only travel further afield when absolutely necessary (Putting a system in place for zoning, tracking and penalizing people, smacks of planned failure in order to generate revenue). It could also be used to encourage a resurgence of smaller, independent businesses as larger chains would need multiple stores to cover a city, thus negating some of their price advantages.

Unfortunately, I doubt they’ve worked out the details and will just force it into action through fear and punishment. Good old eco-mentalists…

Smacks of Communism to me, stopping freedom of movement and choice. It would make me feel hemmed in.
