Need help - Mini Cooper S F56 - 2016. - buying - need an advice

Gents,

first and foremost, I wish you and your family the best year ever! And to your Zed's and other cars, low oil and gasoline consumption and just regular services, no faults at all. :)

So, new year, time for a newer car. As our Zed and Mini this year have a 20th birthday. So, as I have an amazing experience with our Mini One R50 with Lohen L01 (130 HP), I was looking at Mini Cooper S F56 generation.

I did my homework, it is 2.0 L B48A20 engine that is generally ok.

But, we went to see one model - 2016. , JCW kit, 55923 miles on the clock, second owner (5 years), from a respectable company that sells cars.

It has everything we like, colour, engine, miles.
Even my girlfriend has a serious look:

Drives perfectly has plenty of horsepower, no squeaks or anything like that, tight car with a service history.

But, where is my concern:
IMG_2617.jpeg
IMG_2617.jpeg (193.84 KiB) Viewed 813 times
It has a black exhaust, and it was oily inside the engine, but nothing much. Just oily.
The car sits in the garage of the company, so it is not driven regularly, but the cold start was great, it works smoothly on idle.

Why dirty exhaust?

There wasn't any smoke on cold start and after test drive, or during test drive.

i don't think the black exhaust is a problem , just a lack of cleaning ... :D

they are superb cars, i've had a manual F57 Cooper S, and there a lot of fun indeed ...

I've sold the grey for (again) a E89, but my wife drives the orange Cooper . :driving:

The dirty exhaust is normal, just needs cleaned. FWIW, the tail lights may be aftermarket. I don't believe MINI offered union jack tail lights until later model years.

Thank you mate, this was my remark, and the owner is an enthusiast so as soon as Union Jack tail lights were introduced, he bought them because they fit this model also and it looks better.

Personally, I would do the same. As I am also not normal. :)

Thanks mate, so I should be concerned? As it has low milage, I don't know are those turbo engines reliable.

Also, beautiful orange Mini. :)

My advice stay away from the 2014 cars I had one from new and had 2 engine replacements in 12 months because the crack shaft kept shearing.

Awful car couldn't rely on it. The second engine was replaced with the newer BMW made version which is much better. I think 2015 cars moved onto the BMW version of the same engine and it much better.

The exhaust clips that are attached to the actuator to open and close the exhaust valve do fail, all you need to do is unbolt it and replace only like £20. All BMW products of this generation with a valved exhaust suffer with it. Both my JCWs have suffered with it.

Vid below

I would check paint too, form my experience the paint is really poor, you can take it off with a pressure washer with a car specific head.... Also check interior plastics they are renowned for going grey over time.

Otherwise pretty good cars!

Ive had 2 JCWs Clubmans since, fabulous cars super underrated. If the option is there I would buy a JCW instead 👍🏻

Thank you so much for the advice tomscott, I am sorry to hear that you had problems. This model is from 2016. and as I checked, it has BMW B48A20 engine.

The paint is ok, and if I buy it, it will go to the professional for detailing and protection. The interior is very good for 2016 and 55k miles.

Thank you!

There won't be a problem with the newer engine.

At the time my mum was using the car while I was traveling, only traveling a couple of miles to work, not like it was getting abused. There was a serious issue with the engine which is why they moved over to their own production and a lot of the early engines were replaced under warranties. Once the new engine was in it was fine, the problem was the love for the car was gone so it got moved on.
