Transmission issue

Post by kaankabaklioglu » Tue Dec 20, 2022 1:11 pm

Hi Z guys ! As i mentioned long time ago, i still have the problem with smg and it was broke down 1,5 months ago. I decided to convert it to manual but its impossible because of the belhousing of the oem smg transmission. Its too hard to find another used GS6-37BZ to replace. I tried the 3.0si 6 speed the n52 version, but it didnt fit. So i am considering now to get a diesel version of the transmission which is GS6-37DZ and swap the belhousings. Just problem is i dont want to waste more money thats why i need help about does DZ's belhousing fits directly to BZ or not. Its looks like totally same transmissions. Just gear ratios are different. If anybody knows some deeper information, please dont hesitate to share with me. Thank you all..

My own transmission is a ZF GS6-37BZ 1069401016

What problems do you have with the SMG exactly? Have you tried to read the SMG error memory with Inpa / ISTA?

Why did you use a n52 engine trans? The smg is a M54 engine. Surely using a m54 manual trans would work? As far as I know the smg is basically a manual trans anyway (with some extras).

The OP originally posted back in July '21 asking about converting SMG to fully manual. Myself and a few others offered advice/points of view at the time viewtopic.php?p=1855481#p1855481
The OPs post at the top of this page is from December just gone and none since then so perhaps he has resolved his issues :?

The 6-speed SMG was fitted to both M54 and N52 engines.

The 6speed SMG-II was never fitted to the N52 on a E85/86 Z4, only on the M54 engined pre-facelift cars. However, it was available on N52 engined E63 6series and E60 5series cars.
The post date 20th December 2022 is just under the title at the top of the OPs original post that you replied to

FWIW, the dates and times only appear once you've gone into the settings and set the time zone.
