Integrated air to air heat pump for the garage
One for the garage..not the lounge..
Given the price of electricity now and lacking the desire to use an open flame type heating device I’ve bit the bullet and bought an integrated ie no separate condenser wall hung air source heat pump / air conditioner…
With temperatures here is the winter at freezing or below and with several big overhaul / upgrade projects on the Yellow Peril the prospect of snapping plastics and fingers in the cold weather was too much.
Plus on the 5 days of the year where the temp here goes above 30c then it would make a nice place to chill.
Bought this unit for £775..I’m not able to cope with connecting a unit that has a separate condenser so too the risk on this baby.
For around 800 watts of power it generates a theoretical 2.8 k watts of heat..
I have to stay with the outside at -11c and the inside starting at -7c it seemed to take quite a while to warm up..but with 24 sq metres of concrete and over 60 cubic metre of space I guess that would be a challenge.
Today at -2c and with a run at it we hit 11c after 3 hours which felt positively toasty.
Quite noisy from the fans..so the music needs a couple of notches up….

We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard…

That's not an air source heat pump, Peter. That's an air to air heat pump. A modern version of what we used to call "a window rattler" through-the-wall a/c unit.
Says on the box it's 12,000 btu/h, that equates to 3.5kW at 7 degrees ambient and 50% RH.
Make sure the condensate drain is good, as that will produce a LOT of it. Looks nice, though, and a good price if it works OK.

All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

Should catch almost no sun..save for the window which will catch the early morning sun rise..

I stand corrected..Seems to have a fairly chunky pipe I’ll keep an eye on it when it gets warmer..it does vibrate the 44 mm thick timber…short of a stone facade not sure what I can do to dampen the hum..Pondrew wrote: ↑Sun Dec 18, 2022 7:33 pm That's not an air source heat pump, Peter. It will make more condensate in the cold weather. When heating, the condenser which is the evaporator on heating will frost up. Then every so often it will go through a 'hot gas defrost' which will get rid of all the melted ice at once. When it's cold outside make sure the drain doesn't get blocked with ice as you will get all the water dumping on the floor inside.
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

Try some vibration pads (we used to used Tico pads), between the wall and the unit. Ideally either side of the fixings, this will help with resonance into the wall.
Presuming the little timber frame outside is to keep the weather out a bit. It will work much better without it TBH, as you are helping the air to recirculate from the exhaust to the intake with it there.

I’ve got a bulk order of sound deadening mats for my audio upgrade I’ll see if they could work..

Those units work well, I have two of them and used them for AirCo in the summer and some heat if I am in the office during the weekend. Total area I have for 2 is 50m2, takes about 15 minutes to heat up.

Mine are hanging away from the floor, not too noisy
