Bonnet Latch / Spring

Post by Samurai Tortoise » Tue Nov 29, 2022 2:03 pm

Am I missing a part? When I open my bonnet it doesn't spring up and it looks to me that to the left of the latch there is a hole for something like a spring to attach as my bonnet doesn't pop up so you can access the latch. Its only just dawned on me that I'm possibly missing a part...

If I am missing the part, what is the part number? I can find the latch online but not the spring bit...hence not sure if I am missing it?

2006? - If it's a facelift it has latches either side, not in the middle.
Mounted on the outer edges of the slam panel are two plastic pistons that push the bonnet up a little.
Check they are both present and working.

That'll give you an idea of what part numbers you might be looking for.

Ah, yes, 2006 facelift...off to check. In my mind I thought like other cars it would have a spring next to the latch

You can find all the parts on Real OEM whatever year it is.

It's a cable that pulls the centre catch to open it. It can seize up. Get some Muc-Off bike oil stuff as it works wonders.

Either that or I have the only e85 with a catch in the middle and both sides.

Found the two pistons that are meant to make the bonnet pop up a little as enuff-zed described and both mine are stuck and not working thus my bonnet doesn't pop up enough to get fingers under. Will order two new ones....anyone got a part number to hand as couldn't see them on the link above.

I think in the end we put the number into eBay and they came up around a tenner each.

Mr Tidy, can you help?

I think the catch in the middle is the manual release, after you've pulled the handle and the bonnet has popped as little.
The OP is saying the initial cable pull doesn't pop his bonnet up enough for him to access this secondary release.

Thats right, pull the handle in the cabin footwell and my bonnet doesn't do the initial pop that allows you to get your fingers under it to use the main bonnet latch. Its the two pistons that enuff-zed has highlighted that's the issue. Both mine are all the way in and stuck so make no effort to pop up the bonnet.

Ebay, genuine BMW Store £9.11 each plus postage

Ignore the fact the image shows the boot.
Same component both ends.

Sorry guys, a bit late but that link is for the one I bought. The rubber part is threaded and just screws in from above the slam panel. Then a gentle turn of the plastic centre makes it pop up.
Coupes because stunning!
