Newbie Alert!

Post by T_J_G » Mon Nov 28, 2022 12:37 pm

Hi everyone, I'm new around these parts. Just picked up a 2003 Z4 3.0i. Previously owned by my father in law for the last 19 years and has been replaced with the new Z4 M40i. This car has only done 55k and spent most of it's life in a garage. I'm based in Kent - UK.

My immediate plans are:
-fit new battery
-try and sort central locking issues
-sort coolant level light
-refurb wheels (dreaded white worm)
-respray front bumper as there's a few issues on there.

Here's the obligatory picture after this mornings wash and wax session, I've missed having a car just to enjoy it.

That looks in great condition for a 19 year old car, not my favourite Z4 wheels and on here I'm probably in the minority as they take some looking after. If you're going to refurbish them properly you'll need to split them and then ensure concentricity when re-assembled.

Welcome OP. :)

It's in really lovely condition. Wheel return will be a job for the professionals!

Welcome OP. :)
Concentricity is a 3-Dimensional cylindrical tolerance zone that is defined by a datum axis where all the derived median points of a referenced cylindrical feature must fall within. All median points along the entire feature must be in this tolerance zone.

Now do you get it 😂

Nope!
I thought it was the very expensive 'magic' that keeps the lights on; in concentrated form.... :D

T_J_G, probably for the best
Pondrew, Dav the wheel nut, I wonder way back when, that split rims were the only way to meet concentricity requirements on racing wheels because mono bloc wheels machined on lathes one side, turned around and then machined on the other face was worse. Given modern manufacturing methods it is now probably the other way around :idunno:

Certainly doesn’t, this’ll be a summer car once my new one arrives in the new year.
