Lowering seat with a bucket and cage in a roadster?
Hi Guys,
I wondered if anyone has fitted a bucket and if so were they able to get the seating position any lower?
6'4 with a helmet on is higher than the windscreen which makes me worried on trackdays.
Also has anyone fitted a rear-only cage and could you retain the roof?
I should probably sell and buy something appropriate but i like it

It will depend on the seats and the hardware used to fit them.
I've got Recaro Pole Position ABE fitted to mine, but with the Macht Schnell floor mounts and Recaro sliders, they're probably no lower than the OE seats (even on their lowest setting)...however you do gain a little do to having less cushioning on the seat base. If you were to go without the sliders and fitted them directly to the floor then you'd probably gain another inch.
Don't forget about the extra height a helmet will add, as I have a 6'2" friend who has trouble fitting into my passenger seat of the coupe (in both standard and bucket seats).

Get a turbo MX5. Running cost for track use will be less and fun greater. Though at 6'4" I don't know if we fit in the Mk4.
Note to self must take a Mk4 out for test drive.

mx5's too small im afraid.
Thanks for the feedback and pictures there mm-five. We would need sliders as the car is shared. I guess the pole positions are pretty thin on the bottom to start with.
Might be curtains for the z4m then or a reason to buy yet another car ?

I've fitted tillett b6s (with runners for the pax) and they are way, way lower than stock, you would have no problem at your height and helmet situation. My passenger in the photo below is about 6'1'' and can barely see over the bonnet!
I've seen a couple of roadsters with cage but I don't think the roof is viable to keep.

Not sure this is the best way to describe, but should one consider their leg torso ratios / lengths and build? e.g I’m 6 ft but seem to have a smaller torso and longer legs. When I’m sitting down I’ve often noticed that people shorter, with bigger build look taller than me…

I’m the complete opposite. 5’9” with a 28-inch inside leg.

tillets are the answer, im 6ft and man they are low and ive got the TALL mounts, tall seat bases and the sliders all of which raise the seat and the seating position is VERY low.... the normal setup like toms would be ideal for you. i can very barely see the bonnet, lol! and the seat puts you in this insane reclined race position that makes everything feel so connected. One of the best changes ive ever made to a car.

Yep. Good example of how much lower is that the sunvisors are now utterly useless as opposed to being just a bit rubbish originally.
Here's one with a small chap. I did offer a pillow to be fair

Another vote from the Tillett brigade! Ive got b5s with Tillett side mounts and I think recaro sliders - at 5'11" I have to crane my neck to see potholes!
I definitely echo Tom's comment on sun visors - utterly useless now

They're 4.5kg bare, and 5kg with the alcantara pads which is fairly ridiculous! Considering the OEM heated leccy seats are near enough 30kg each it is a fairly considerable saving! They're deceptively comfy too; my wife has a knackered back and always comments that they're comfier than her own car once she's actually in them
