Yellow car lift dashboard icon

Post by docbrown2015 » Thu Nov 24, 2022 3:39 am

Hey, so this morning I drove my car everything was fine and I went to work and coming out of work I turn my car on and I got the yellow car lift emblem on my dash, but I already had service 2 weeks ago on it so I drove it around a little bit and then I turn my car off turned it back on and there was no more lift emblem, could this just be a glitch? I started it a few times and no lift emblem at all, what could this be?

Is there still an exclamation mark on the display somewhere?
If there is it is probably just the vehicle check that needs to be acknowledged and set to a new date.

Actually there is no! Just next to the park was a triangle and! But then it disappeared after I turned the car off and turn it back on again and that it was okay All I'm getting is the yellow car lift signal icon but it doesn't do it all the time sometimes when I turn the car off it doesn't come on at all but then next time I turn it back on it comes on again and while I'm driving it just goes off I only noticed this yesterday but when I turn the ignition on without the engine on I get the engine light but my battery icon that comes up so I'm not sure if it's my battery or not

The yellow 'car on ramp' symbol means the car thinks it is due for a service shortly (time based I think). Yellow is for information, red is for warning.
The car won't log it as a fault as it's only information at this stage. If it's not reset then it will turn red then you get the "!" logged.
Sounds like your garage didn't reset the service interval when it was serviced. I think it is one of the parameters you can reset yourself in the computer using the BC button and scrolling thingy.
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

If the battery has an increased discharge then the warning light you mention is shown. When I had this the remedy was to replace the battery and I've never seen it since.

Check the date stamp on the battery terminals, anything over 5 years would be suspect although mine reached a life of 10 before replacement.

For that problem if you have idrive you'll see a "increased battery discharge' message on the screen at the same time.as the yellow ramp warning.

If it's the original battery I'd be looking for a replacement the something like this

Problem is that the same symbol is used to advise some aspects of service are due OR there are one or more defects..here’s some of them..using the stalk on the LH side to do an interrogation..better still use a fault code reader..

Easy, then. Take it back to the garage and - politely - complain.

I have had this a couple of times, once the car had a very low battery. I cleared the fault using the stalks and charged the battery for over a day with the CTek.

Second time is when I changed the salmon relays and the guide I saw said to disconnect the battery. Not sure if supposed to or not…. But that symbol came up when the car was powered back on.

I repeated the above, no issues or bongs several months later!

I’d also suggest changing the battery.

I tried it again today and the as soon as I put the fob in the ignition, the yellow car lift icon came on only once and when I went to BC on your messages it just showed the yellow car on the left but when I turned my car off and turned it back on again I went to check control and it read "check ok" and it continued to "check ok" the rest of the time.. is this a glitch?

As suggested new battery or at least a decent code reader…without a decent battery that’s charged anyone of 32 computers in the car could be having a bad day…

Its probably not a glitch.
Start with the easy things you can check for free.
Go into the cars service menu and check the dates for each item.
One of them may just need the date reset and as I said earlier it may be the vehicle check that is different from the services or mot.
A garage might reset the item it was in for, like an mot, but not reset the vehicle check date.
