B21’s service and repair complex now open

Post by B21 » Wed Nov 16, 2022 6:08 pm

After several months of work on both the new garage and seemingly interminable time spent organising, cleaning and sorting I’m please to declare the B21 Zed overhaul and repair facility open!

The flatpack garage kit went up pretty fast and all seemed well in the summer.

However as the autumn came on, I was surprised at how quickly mould started to develop….in part due to the warm conditions and in part to the untreated wood which the manufacturers did state need treating.

Also surprising a number of leaks from knots, damp proof course layout issues and even through the gaps in the tongue and groove timbers.

Systematically we worked our way through the leaks and sadly had to say goodbye to the fresh pine look…we used Sikkens wood stain in two shades to try and blend the old structures with the new..so a lot of painting took place.

In parallel one of the shed sections was converted into a pony shelter as part of the overall negotiation with SWMBO.

So I’ve now got a 4 section facility,..

A ‘hangar’ for the car]

A dirty room for any cutting n grinding

A clean room for assembly and maintenance of sub assemblies

A lab for work on fine details, programming and IT support

No excuses now not to get on with things…

One very big garage would have been nice..sadly just not feasible from where we started…

That’s terrific. I spent today reorganising my single space garage, before popping Zed back in, and whilst there’s satisfaction in the tidiness I’m now pining for more space! Even found an old set of rear calipers which came off when the bling performance yellows went on  nice job

Yeah, that is what I'm missing for my own purposes. Congratulation!

Btw, is that a missile control center with 6 screens on the last picture?

Job well done!! I envy anyone who has the skills to not only build a workspace like this but knowledge to work on own vehicle. Again, Hat's off.

That's my low grade non work version..when I was working on certain classifed operations I had 13 screens in the home office... :tumbleweed:

Many thanks..you should try..what could possibly go wrong? Apart from sheared bolts, cross threaded nuts, dings in bodywork, scratches in paint, destroyed ECUs, stripped threads, car on fire etc? :tumbleweed:

Mr Tidy, I know house prices are steeper in the south east but I’m sure a person of your standing has a commodious abode? :tumbleweed:

My garage is about 6m by 4m

The dirty works shed is 4m by 3m and the clean room is 4m by 3.5m

The office is 4.5m by 5m

So that’s 24+12+14+22.5 = 82 sq metre?

No commodious abode for me sadly! I'm a Southern property pauper with just 71 square meters.

And thankfully not a 'show off'. :P
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

F31 320i. Good car.
E89 20i Now fully dried
Z3 'free litre'. Project and a half. Complicated!
Mazda3 sold
Tatty old R56 Mini Cooper. Money pit!
