rust!

Post by chmaiden » Fri Nov 04, 2022 4:28 pm

Hi all

newbie here - thinking of buying a z4 - already have a 3 and a 1 series but fancy a summer toy for next year.

do they suffer with rust? I've noticed on the 3 and the 1 (both 5/6 years old now) that there is a bit of rust coming through

if they do, where is common to look, and any recommendations as to who are the best places to sort it? I am in Surrey

thx

Welcome to the forum
My e89 is 11 years old and there’s no rust, they do seem to suffer from the front corners of the top section of the roof bubbling but that’s alloy so not rust as such.

My 2003 isn't showing signs of rust, woodworm, maybe. I think it depends where they have lived, sea air can attack them.

Does it double-up as an ice-cream van?
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

They will be selling inflatable dinghies cheap soon. "Many items in stock. All only used once; low mileage (around 22)" :D

Now, Sterling grey Z4 2.2 with cup holders, stubby aerial and sport seats. Roadsters ‘cause they’re great with the roof down.
Ford Anglia, Red Sprite, a few MG midgets, MGB Roadster and yellow Ford Capri, all gone many years now.

Seen no body rust but things like rear calipers, rear dust plates, bearing hubs, rear axle frame rust. I either paint them or spray oil over them.

You live in the lighthouse then? :D

As to the RUST, the OP said his wife won't let him get one ATM, so by the time he does they will all be rusty anyway! :P
