SARS this is definitely corrosion and brittle as can be seen from bits missing. We don’t need to de scale as we live in a soft water area. I wonder if it’s a Chinese Knock off.
I would certainly send a complaint into Bosch, if one of their suppliers is cutting corners I’m sure they’d want to know. Also is it magnetic?

I don’t know if it’s magnetic, the wife has rung Bosch and they have said no one else has complained  and would she send it to them. Goodbye evidence. TBO as we are in a soft water area we don’t really need it anyway. The same thing happened to her Bosch hair curlers, when some springs in them went rusty and they hadn’t in the old ones which were the same. I suspect it is like everything these days, companies are cutting corners and using cheaper goods and suppliers to cut costs. :headbang:

Always pops open when the kettle's cool or been left for a while after boiling. If you try to open it directly after boiling it can stick sometimes but I think this is due to steam condensing in the groove that the edge of the lid sits in - all of ours have been like this.

Normal then, it's just that when I find one thing wrong, I start noticing other things as well.

The one thing I don't like about them is the 'beep' is far too loud so the first thing I do when we get a new one is to mod the base to reduce the beep volume - takes about 10 mins and doesn't cost a penny :D

How do you do that? Easy?

Unplug it first - obviously
Pop the top off the base - use thin shims (I tend to use old butter knives as they're thin but wide), lever gently and it'll gradually pop out of the surround.
Once the top is off you'll see a small piezo speaker - looks like a small upright cylinder (all of mine have been black).
Most of the noise comes out the hole in the top so I stick some thick plastic over it - small round stick on feet/bumpers from various equipment purchases work really well.
Then reassemble using gentle pressure to 'pop' the top back into place

Easier to do than explain... :P

This is by far the longest lived kettle I’ve ever owned, most seem to croak after a couple of years but this is still going strong past it’s 6 birthday - it’s probably doomed now I’ve mentioned it

FFS. I can't believe it has come down to grown men taking photos of their kettles!
I don't know if we have a kettle; that's the wife's domain! :P
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

I have been resisting taking an arty shot of my Bosch Kettle but I do have a matching toaster and Tassimo in black :P

Using filtered water seems to make a big difference.

Of course after reading all of this I'm now kettle paranoid
