Insurance renewal in

Post by ori » Thu Oct 27, 2022 4:59 pm

Well, turns out I’ve had my car for nearly 1 year as my renewal came in.
I use the bmw flex insurance as it was the best price at the time, but it’s gone up 24%!!! I know premiums have gone up, but it stings. It’s about £220 more per year.
I’ve found the insurance on compare sites for £150 less than my renewal buys with a £900 excess compared to the £400 I have now.

Any ideas on getting a better price?

If you’re using companion sites are you also using Quidco/Top Cashback etc?

I’ve not long renewed mine with bmw flex and mine went up approx £15 for the year. I think my annual premium is circa £440.

Like you I could get it slightly cheaper elsewhere but the excesses were at least double like you’re experiencing

My claim was several years ago now and was part on my insurance original price so shouldn’t affect this renewal.

Ok, perhaps a high performance levy. Both the Porsche and the X5M went up a lot whilst the other cars all went down.

So you were paying £917 before and with a 24% increase they want £1,137.00 p/a?

Are you 22, living in central Liverpool? :o

Just did a comparison quote on a G29 M40i, for the fun of it. £268.49 with £400 excess. 55 years old with full NCB. You must have some markers, or they are mugging you!

Insuring my G29 went up by about £50pa from my E89 35is even though the downsize in engine size. They said it was because of the increase in value of the car.

Did get free coffees at Costa for a month just for the enquiry with Money supermarket site and a £30 Halfords voucher when I took the insurance

Not sure it's just about performance as my Z4M has been getting cheaper each renewal! Although it could just be newer performance cars that are going up.
    Coupes because stunning!

I renewed my insurance in May but when I replaced my one year old car two weeks ago with a three year old 1500cc VW T-Roc all I got back as a refund was £9

ori, Maybe try Chris Knott. They have discount for forum member. They can also do price match. I renew both my bmw with them. Two cars in total is about £850. I'm 33 with about 6 or 7 years NCB, zero volunteer excess, and you know where I live.

It's a bit irrelevant comparing premiums to other people's IMHO. Everybody has different 'risk factors' which can affect premiums by a lot (as has been shown here).

I have a neighbour who is 62, no accidents for donkey's years, no points and a similar car to me. He pays £500 more a year than I do. He couldn't understand why, until it came out that he has had 3 windscreen claims in 5 years. I've had none. :?
