Vornwend wrote: Sun Oct 23, 2022 9:10 pm Alexander de Pfeffel Johnson just announced he won't run - thank f**k for that! Claims he had 102 nominations but I suspect far less and now trying to save face by claiming to be acting in the countries best interest  Flew back from the Dominican Republic to wish Rishi and Penny well - yeah right  Be the first time in his life he's pulled out in time too!

As one commentator put it "It’s like that time when I had an offer to play for Liverpool but decided, in the event, that it was for the best if i pressed ahead with my history degree." :D
The 1922 committee has confirmed he did have 102 votes. He pulled out because Rishi would not do a non aggression deal whichever one won.
Boris would not have been able to form a cabinet and he knew it.

Now for the higher taxes, lower benefits and backtracking on the triple lock for the pensioners. Add to that austerity Mk2, oh joy indeed, but at least the city will be happy and calm so where's the problem?
Still don't believe it I'm afraid, the story got inflated after Bob Blackman (secretary of the 1922) allegedly said that Johnson WOULD have got over the threshold if he had stayed in - not the same thing as saying he did and a perfect example of how urban myths begin. I'll believe it if he swears an oath and goes on the record. Otherwise I'll prefer to take anything that Johnson says as a lie which is what he has done his entire life - that's the problem with being an incorrigible liar - no one believes a word you say!

Here are some of his real backers:

Just read the actual quote as posted on the Guido Faulks website and it confirmed the votes no mention of the word “ would”

It's still all hearsay though isn't it. The claim was apparently made by Johnson supporting MP Nigel Adams

If he really did get enough nominations he could have let his name go forward and then withdrawn - that would have removed any doubt and demonstrated he was doing it for the greater good. Alternatively he didn't get enough and wanted to save face before the results were announced. Knowing his record as a self serving liar I know which one I favour :)

But carry on believing that Johnson was acting in the countries interest if it makes you feel any better about it.

He is two of those things TBF; nice and a chap. Honest; definitely not!

My wife got to know him a bit when he was our MP (Henley and South Oxon) 20 years ago. He used to often visit the hotel she was receptionist at, as he was friends with the owners. She always said he was extremely charming, polite, gracious and really friendly. Shame he turned out to be a lying tosser.

I suspect we may continue to disagree on political matters, we may even disagree that red zeds are fastest when its a fact that they are. 8)
It would be a boring old place if people didn't disagree sometimes, it's how they disagree that matters

It's all going to be OK. Rishi has got the seal of approval from the markets; interest rates will be back to 0.0001% by xmas.

He is overseeing Hunt's budget plans, so the announcement has been delayed a couple of weeks, just to make sure everything is in order and there are no errors.

Rumour has it that he going to confront Putin, and if he doesn't do as Roland (sorry Rishi) demands then the race card will come out, which will make him back down.

Happy days ahead people. Can't wait. :D
