Winter cover / storage

Post by Pazza » Wed Oct 05, 2022 11:11 am

Having purchased my first e86 in the summer, I like to keep this amazing car for many years.
I don’t have a garage and don’t have options of storage elsewhere. Ideally would like to keep in on my large driveway but with some kind of cover to protect the wet damp weather until around spring next year. I will probably drive it once or twice a week.

My first option was a car cover but read on many threads about rubbing on the bodywork and also damp mould issues.

Another option was a large tunnel tent - seen some from £100-£200 - nice size that covers the whole car and will allow air to pass through the car and convenient being a ‘drive in - drive out option.

Has anyone got experience of these options.

I've just bought a Classic Additions cover for my z4c. The reviews for it look good, not cheap though. As long as you take it off occasionally and give it a bit or air, damp/condensation shouldn't be an issue. I did give the car a good clean and polish before fitting it as well. It's made of a really soft stretchy material so hopefully no scratching. Time will tell. :)

I've been using this type of cover for long time, no problem with
The 2 advices :
1) Use only on clean car (w\o dust, dirt etc)
2) Use only on dry car

Mine is in front of the apartment building almost all year with this hail cover, and during winter also. But even more, it's essential during summer days as I found that the sun is not weak as before, so the sun can damage the car. And as I live in Croatia, during summer days, we have temperatures over 30C and summer storms with hail.

So, the car is under the cover, safe:

And I thought our weather in the UK was bad :headbang:
Now, Sterling grey Z4 2.2 with cup holders, stubby aerial and sport seats. Roadsters ‘cause they’re great with the roof down.

I was looking at different covers, mainly for the weather but now also my neighbours are buying log burners and the ash is all over my Zed. Not happy!

I have ordered a cover (of sorts) it’s on its way from Germany. Will post pics when I get it.
