New Government energy cap

Post by Pondrew » Wed Sep 28, 2022 9:07 pm

I'm so glad the Government have set a new energy cap of £2,500.
This means, based on our energy usage from the past year, our bill will only be £4,188.00 for the next year. :o

How the feck does that work? :x
I have worked out that this Government isn't very good with money over the last week, but that is a serious case of "when is a cap not a cap?"

Oh and BTW I got a renewal for my home insurance today; it is EXACTLY the rate of inflation more than last year! I thought insurance was risk based, not inflation-based. :x

I'm hiring a boat and going to the Baltic sea with some empty jerry cans; to scoop up some of the bubbling gas. That'll learn 'em! :)
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

They finally at least listed a price per kw/h whilst before it was only this average nonsense that means nothing.

You pay for what you use, the £2.5k’s just an arbitrary number based on average use - higher use brings higher charges :o

Worked that one out myself. But you can't have a 'cap' that means nothing to anyone and is a hypothetical cap. False sense of security and lying to the public AGAIN! The £2,500 was bandied around by the media but means absolutely nothing to anyone. If it was an advert it would be pulled for false representation.

I dunno, it's a cap on the unit price of gas and electricity, which has always seemed quite clear to me - they can't cap the cost of your energy bill, that would unfairly support those with larger houses and therefore higher energy usage.

Rob is correct the actual cap is based on price per KW/Hr and average usage - think its is set at 32p but could be wrong so your usage times that for electric, not certain on gas as I have LPG, think its 7p.

My house insurance went from £567 to £889 this year, when I called they did not know why and could not requote as their system was down, went to confused.com and got if for £393, my original insurer then called back and asked if I was reinsuring with them.

Total them to stuff it as I was not happy at £567 never mind their new quote

Yes always been clear to me as well, If it was £2,500 and thats it what stops anyone running their gas and electric flat out 24/7.

Great idea mate, do it at night so no one spots you. Save even more money by using a candle for illumination. :D

Whatever the cap is the fact its daylight robbery is a fitting tribute to our woeful lack of energy reliance and planning and all the more galling seeing the huge energy company profits being reaped.

Damage has been done and there will be many a pensioner simply too scared to use their heating, not everyone understands it all, cost per kwh etc.

Scary times especially after yesterday with the Bank of England shawing everything up, value of pensions plummeting. I honestly don't think Truss knows what on earth she's doing. You think Boris was out of his depth 🤔

Yep, and guess who turns 55 next week....yours truly! :x

It's not just the Government who has no clue what they are doing....Barclays Bank has 'mislaid' hundreds of thousands of pounds of my outlaws' money too! :o It's a long story which I won't bore you with, but as it was supposed to be transferred in a Euro account and the exchange rate as it is, they are set to lose over 40,000 euros from the amount when it should have been transferred.

Oh and I want to move house but that ain't going to happen anytime soon as the housing market has come to a standstill for obvious reasons.
