Hi all
Looking at getting back into an e89 after a while away. Had the 30i before for a couple of years and looking at the 4 pot this time round... don't mock me, lol. Getting a sensible head as I get older, i suppose. I've seen this one and wondered what the thoughts were from those more in touch with the current market.

Seems I've posted twice. Can somebody delete one, please?

Welcome back.
Ref deleting posts. I have just tried it and you can delete it your self, as long as no one else has commented in the thread. So if you are quick about it you should be able to do that simply your self, with your other thread. Click on the black x in each post starting with the last one. You can't now delete this thread as another user, me, has made a comment.
Just noticed the boss is on line. he may save you the trouble.

Hi and welcome back.
The car in the link has no heated seats, no cruise and no extended storage. SE spec and pre LCI. It has been discussed millions of times, but you can get the 28i performance (and a bit more) from the 18i or 20i with a cheeky remap for very little money. They are cheaper to buy as are seen to be 'lesser' models but really aren't. Prices are definitely falling too so it's shifting from a seller's market to a buyer's. HTH.

More out of touch than I thought. I missed all of that
Helps a lot. Thanks.

I did find a delete button but it told me I couldn't delete from the forum. Who knows.
Gone now so thanks to whomever did it.

just remember you are supposed to tell the insurer, not that they are likely to find out but some people are less keen on this mod than others.
That car is a nice colour combo, and one of my favourite wheels (although they are a pain to clean). I'm a 6 cylinder man too... so that would rule it out (but there are some cost/maintenance implications of going that route).

Good luck finding your next Z4.
I've only had E86s so have no experience of E89s or 4-pots.
But fortunately others do!

Paying a premium price from probably one of the most premium priced dealers..you could do better…that’s what my school report said…
Do you plan to keep this car for a while or is it a ship passing in the night?

You're probably right - it won't be the car I posted.
Hadn't really thought about how long I'll keep it. I don't see ot as a fleeting thing, now you mention it.

So my budget will probably put me around a 2012 model 2.0l. If I go that route, should I be concerned about cam chain failure?

Yes...significant chance of failure most probably from 75k miles upwards, especially on long oil change cars and those with stop start..
Like the 'i smoked 60 ciggies a day and never had any problems' not all are doomed to failure but..its increasingly common..I know 5 that have blown up and 8 that were repaired before they blew up..you never here of N52 or even N54 engines 'blowing up'..
I'd just bank £1k and if you going to keep it.get the camchain done and live happy evert after..once the camchain and oil pump are out of the way it should be pretty much trouble free motoring..
