MOT failure

Post by Mr_E85Bim » Wed Sep 21, 2022 9:53 pm

My car is due an MOT so I have been watching YouTube to ensure it doesn't fail for anything silly.

On one of the videos they mention cracked light. My 3rd tail light has been cracked since I owned it. Would this really cause an MOT failure?

Cheers

Not sure if a crack will fail- think it will fail if a higher % of leds aren’t working

I thought that sounded a little excessive. All the leds work just fine. Fingers crossed it will be fine.

Thanks Big

Mine passed with a piece broken off the end, but all the LEDs worked.

MOT failure

Certain aspects of the MOT are very open to interpretation and subjective to the tester I've found.

I brought my car in for Headlight adjustment to somewhere separately from where my MOT was booked and the guy that did the lights said I'd fail the MOT because of several stone chips in my windshield.

Passed without any mention of the windshield despite it being in line of sight.

My opinion of MOT is to just bring it in and see what they comment on, otherwise you're chasing unknown issues in the hopes that it passes first time, spending money in the process that you might not need to.

These days savvy buyers look at the MOT history before they buy a car, so it’s worth giving it the best possible chance of passing first time.

Making sure your car is super clean underneath and being friendly with the tester really helps.

MOT failure

If you go down the ebay route for a replacement high level brake light be aware not all have the same quality of sealing gasket.
Have now been through two replacements on my Z4, replaced the original red that had leds out for a clear ebay one, the gasket was very poor on this one and didnt pull up into the gap very well at the ends. It lasted a year before some of the leds failed. Bought another from seller placeorder19 on ebay and that came with a better gasket than the first one so those on offer on ebay are not all the same. I did have to shave the edges of the connector down to get it to plug into the cars connector. Once in it pulled into the boot lid far better than the earlier replacement and it sealed fine. So far so good with this one. Currently my seller is out of stock so it will be a lottery what you get with other sellers regarding the quality of the unit and their gaskets.
