Cold air intakes

Post by Gingerlomax » Tue Sep 20, 2022 6:32 pm

Hi there. Me again.
So the car already had come filters installed, but the thing is they must just suck in hot air. Is there much of a gain between these and the standard box due to the air temps?

Hate to p*ss on your parade, but I think the general consensus is that the standard BMW set up is more efficient (if less pleasing on the eye) than a bunch of hot air filters.

Don't worry you are not as I was thinking the same thing. The noise is better but it must just be sucking hot air.

Collective consensus is…

On anything apart from a serious turbo upgrade then the stock air box with stock filter is your best solution…

Actually sucking in hot air is not really an issue…BMS found negligible effects compared to say intercooler issues.

However most tests shows very poor level of filtration and hence if you do miles and/or it’s a keeper then alternative solutions are best..
We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard…

When you say serious turbo mods what do you mean?

i was told the very similar by a very reputable tuner in UK when i was tuning my Megane. i was sure he has all the fancy stuff to sell me including a carbon air box with a cone inside :P

so i just went for a better panel filter

I may switch back to original then with like you say a decent panel filter. Would the Map still be OK?
