And now for something completely different
Been looking at various 'classic' cars after ditching the idea of a Cobra.
I found this for sale and I really like it: I would like to turn it into a 'rally rep' like this: My wife thinks I have lost the plot!

I agree with your wife on this one. I think you need a reality check, as you are displaying symptoms of someone who has a certain amount of money 'burning a hole in their pocket.' I have been there many times. Your last three cars should make you realise that you will never be content for long. Love the cars you have, the 4 series is a stunner.

I reckon you should get it as it's the V8.
Then we'll run a sweepstake on whether you arrive at the accident backwards or forwards.

Your wife will shortly be purchasing a plot for you, if you carry on like this.

I won't actually ever drive it. That would just be silly. It was made by BL, don't think it would get out of the drive without breaking down!
Plenty to 'tinker' with, though.
I love the look of the TR7, always have.
It's a TR8 conversion. It's a V8!! OK it's a 3.5L Rover V8, but it's a V8.

I have a lot of money tied up in the 440. I don't use the car; it sits in the garage and comes out for cleaning. I would rather have a cheaper car that I don't use TBH.BeeEmm wrote: ↑Sun Sep 18, 2022 11:11 am I agree with your wife on this one. Oh if it's only a conversion then walk away!
If it were a genuine TR8 then maybe.

My first “sports” car was a TR7 convertible with a Sprint conversion, i.e. the 16v head from the Dolomite Sprint. At about 130hp it was more than enough for the car which did pirouette a few times. The engine was pretty good (as is the rover 3.5l) although even at 10 years old the rear corners had serious rust issues. Fast forward 30-odd years, there’s probably not much of the original car left. Buy it if it moves your soul, otherwise leave well alone.

Only a handful of RHD TR8s were ever made at the factory. 99% of all TR8s are conversions.
Well I like it, so nerrrr

I had many TR7s and 1 TR8 , all drop heads when I worked at BL..
Two paving slabs in the boot was the handling tuning job..
Loved them...the fixed head which was never really the main plan looks ugly to me.but heh ho..
As others have said the bumpers are chunky..don't be lying underneath the front one if you takie it off..
My best friend 'Buster' slung one of them backwards down the slip road on the M4 at Reading..can be twitchy to those weened on ABS/DSC etc..
I looked at them prior to then going for an E89..
Wish I had bought the UK spec TR8 drophead I had when MOE cancelled the UK launch..

We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard…

I used to like the look of the TR7 when they were launched, not so much now, would prefer a X1/9 these days
