Anybody have / had a 718 Cayman?
Hi all,
As per the title really. Been looking at Caymans and wondering if anybody here has one or had any experience with one? Lots of questions will follow…
Thanks
Raj

That looks really nice. Which engine and how would one do me as my only car? I don’t do an incredible amount of mileage and did daily an e86 sport coupe. I think the suspension was shot but it ended up feeling too tiring driving it. From a practicality perspective rarely have anybody with me except my 5 year old son, so will need to be able to fit some toys and bits in, and be able to run the usual errands.

Base 718, circa 300hp.
I did 12k a year for work, so ran a second car for that.
718 was fantastic, however my fiancée does not like speed in bends and as I have the S1000R for fun it was not being used as intended, the G29 M30i is a better car for what we require.
The Boxster was fantastic, but I simply couldn’t justify the costs for what it was being used for and we were looking at buying a property abroad. Bought it new to satisfy a lifelong dream, sold it just under 3 years old as if I had kept it I would have taken out the Porsche 2 year warranty and it would have needed a major service at 4 years old.

Thanks, How does the G29 compare? How much would it have cost to extend the warranty if you don’t mind me asking and what were the servicing costs in your ownership?
I was more than content with the performance of the E86 so assume I’d be more than satisfied with a 2.0 Cayman.
The lifelong dream is what’s pulling me. I’ve always loved cars but have always been a bit too sensible perhaps with prioritising everything else, and am thinking if I don’t do this now I might not get another chance.

Warranty, at last check was £1200 for two years. If the car doesn’t already have a current warranty it needs to pass Porsche 111 point check, any failures in the check need rectified before warranty is granted. This includes non Porsche battery and non "N" spec tyres. So can be expensive to meet the criteria.
Servicing is 2 years/20,000 miles. Minor circa £650, major circa £1400 iirc.
Boxster has more luggage space than Cayman as has front and rear storage.
G29 has a roomier and imo, nicer cabin.

All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

When you keep a car long enough for it to get dirty, then you may comment.

I had a 718 Boxster GTS (2.5l engine), regretfully I made a mistake. Just couldn’t bond with it, harsh ride and just not enjoyable. Get a good test drive and make sure it’s for you.
I pxed mine for a G29 and never regretted it for a second, but then that’s just my requirements, loads of tech, comfort, and not bothered about high performance

It’s close enough Just found the warranty prices on Porsche site and with two year intervals the service costs don’t seem to bad for a Porsche either… You sure about boxter having more luggage space? Did you have PASM?

Yes, I'm sure it has more luggage space.

I ordered a 2.0 718 Cayman in 2016 waited a year for it to arrive absolutely beautiful car just quality finished if I remember correctly the base price was £39k I ended up at £54k it was the worst sounding car I have ever owned it was fast and handled very nicely but after 400 miles I sold it on just didn't get that feeling from it .It had PASM, sports exhaust just made a horrible sounding car louder !! Sports chrono , upgrade alloys , seats etc . I did get a wee trophy from Porsche with my name and chassis number on it wife calls it the £8k ornament my E86 didn't cost that much more and for me I get more enjoyment from driving her than the Porker

I got one of those trophy things from Porsche for my 718 Boxster. Mine cost me around £10k I kept the car for 800 miles.
It’s true that the 2.0 718 sounds like a lawnmower, I had a test drive in one and asked the sales guy what was wrong with it. However the 2.5 GTS 718 sounds much better.

Should have given a bit more time, exhaust "beds" in and sound improves. Never going to sound like a flat 6, but would you shag Susan Boyle over Posh Spice because Susan Boyle sounds better?
