York is a good choice as a base. Plenty to do and only a short drive for a day out in the Dales or to Whitby for the best Fish & Chips on the planet.
If you want a City break further afield would recommend Stockholm. Very stylish and no more expensive than London

I think your toe needs a little adjustment John, you could end up with uneven wear if you leave it

Brighton is my home town and, while it's a great place to visit, I would caution anyone against driving into the city itself. Having two universities means a large student population with a vote biased towards the Green party and, thanks to the Green-controlled council, it's become one of the most car-hostile places in the country.

Now, Sterling grey Z4 2.2 with cup holders, stubby aerial and sport seats. Roadsters ‘cause they’re great with the roof down.

I wasn't impressed last time I went to York (early 2020). Too much tourist bollox. I'm surprised they don't charge to walk around the streets TBH. Seemed everything cost money and the hotels are expensive too.
Jurassic coast would be my choice from Kent. Not too far, well pretty and some nice roads.

All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

North Norfolk coast is scenic and once the schools are back it's fairly quiet too. Quite a few nice driving roads and not too bad to get to from Folkestone.

Not understanding john-e89, bruised toe ?
PerryGunn, I've used the underground car park next to the Grand before, £ 16 for 24 hours if i remember right.
Also the marina multi story is free parking if you do not use the first 2 floors (Reserved for disabled and families)
Fished out of Brighton marina many many times and never paid for parking. Apart from that, parking in Brighton is an impossible task
Glad no one has mentioned London, never going there again if i can help it
