Test drove a Cayman
well that was nice!! Im impressed
Needless to say it drove lovely, was a 2006 3.2s, probably wont be buying that as Im looking to the 987.2 series with the upgraded engine but in terms of driving experience it was way ahead of the z4 and the sl340, cabin was understated but a nice place to be, engine was fantastic.. brakes not so much but it had been sat ona forecourt for a while.. its certainly heading to the top of my very short list

Good choice and would be something I would go for . Have no idea what the maintenance and insurance costs are like though in comparison .
Montego Blue E86 . MILV`s . Simpson Custom Manifold Race Exhaust . xHP transmission stage 3 . VT engine mounts . BC RA coilovers . H&R arbs . Adjustable rear camber arms . Ultra Racing front strut brace . Drexler LSD .

My boxster brakes felt quite under assisted compared to the preceding BMW's but they work very well once you get used to them. There're perfect for a much more progressive use of the brakes.mr.tourette wrote: ↑Tue Aug 30, 2022 4:14 pm well that was nice!! Im impressed

You do have to give the brakes a good shove on boxsters/caymans, but they are plenty powerful enough - proper brembo 4 pots, puts a standard single piston floating caliper to shame.
Also have lovely feelsome hydraulic steering. Clutch can be a bit of a workout, but not too bad. Overall, lovely cars. I swapped my z4 3.0i for a 986 boxster s, very different beast. 987s are more of the same, though with a far nicer more modern interior.

The hype is real isn't it Steve....Bmw just can't get near to them in terms of handling and poise. Interiors are dull as dishwater like the E85/6 but that's soon forgotten once it's up and running.
Best of luck in your quest.

You can't go wrong with a Cayman / Boxster or 911, it's probably what I would go for if I got rid of my Zed!

Hard to compare a front engined RWD vehicle with a mid engined (Cayman) or rear engined (911)
Each produce a totally different driving sensation.

Love mine 2.9 Gen 2, all my research scared me of gen1 to much potential big risk
All what everyone said above is same for me to
But at near on 4 times cost of my E85 it should be better
Straight line not a lot in it on a public road but handling and ride different league
The z4 is the keeper as the Cayman is a bit of box ticking , big old jag next hopefully
But its been brilliant and it’s not going yet either !

I had noticed that on the test, I started giving them a bigger prod and there was plenty there, just seemed to lack initial bite.. something Im sure I would get used tobrillomaster wrote: ↑Tue Aug 30, 2022 8:03 pm You do have to give the brakes a good shove on boxsters/caymans, but they are plenty powerful enough - proper brembo 4 pots, puts a standard single piston floating caliper to shame.

Shame it's not a 'proper' Porsche.
Only joking....of the cars you've looked at; Corvette (?), Merc SL, 370z (?), it would be a Porker for me any day of the week. It's a Porsche!
I am old enough to remember when a Porsche was the pinnacle of automotive engineering. Still is, arguably!

All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

Thanks John, yep the hype is definitely real and I'm beginning to see myself in one for a couple of years... the corvette bug though is still nibbling away at me.. need to make a decision one way or the other soon.. not easy finding one to test drive though

Hehe.. that old chestnut I think Ive ruled out the 370z..looks nice and the 3.7 v6 is tempting but I object to putting 615 large into the taxmans pocket every year for a weekend toy.. porker is half that.. sl is a non starter after the test drive, its down to the corvette and the porker I believePondrew wrote: ↑Tue Aug 30, 2022 10:07 pm Shame it's not a 'proper' Porsche.
