I'm not normally resistant to change but....

Post by Mr Grumpy » Sun Aug 28, 2022 5:18 pm

..I have been finding it difficult over the past few years to accept 'Partner' in place of Boyfriend or Girlfriend. What is wrong with Boyfriend or Girlfriend? A few years ago I had to stop introducing my Business Partner as my Partner because it was not clear to people what I meant. Of course I could introduce him as my Business Partner, but does that mean I have to introduce my Girlfriend as my Sexual Partner to avoid confusion? (try and get away with that one). C'mon, let's start a revolution and go back to Girlfriend or Boyfriend. My Girlfriend rather likes being called Girlfriend, but my Wife hates it. :)
I don't care what you say, I won't agree with your view. :x

I think the term boy/girlfriend is fine in your younger years but seems a bit strange when you’re later on in life?

I really can’t stand the word ‘guys’ when people are addressing me and the wifey.
My wife is not a guy, never has been, never will be and certainly doesn’t look like one.

Yeah, 'girlfriend' seems really weird when talking about my 65yr old dad and his 70yr old partner.... so partner it is.

On a side note, my dad invited us to a party the other day, and said to the hosts his 'youngest child' would be coming... despite me being 35, and definitely not a child... but not sure how else he should say it!?

Partner suggests an equal relationship. Wife is more accurate then everyone knows immediately the situation.

Blimey she must have been truly scammed in the past.

Indeed. Not "Mrs right" just "Mrs right now" :)
