Green Tiefgruen Coupe - Rebuild

Post by Usel » Sat Apr 22, 2023 12:15 pm

This is why I hate getting my own cars painted.

As part of my job I look after a collection of cars. We have used the same the same guy to paint them since forever. This is a person who does impeccable work, brand new cars have had panels painted and its a perfect match even copying the factory finish orange peel effect.

After knowing him for 10 years my own car had the bumper reversed into. It was an insurance job so I took it to him for a quote to send to the insurance company. I got a quote from him last so that he could be £10 under everyone else and he got the job.
When my partner collected the car and I saw it when I got home it was awful. Bumper hadn't been removed and reverse sensors had been painted over in situ. Colour was off with a terrible finish. Paint started to peel off after 2 years.
I didn't do anything, I just couldn't believe it and never used him again for my personal cars.

It really gives you a kick in the crackers when you see your car in that state. I get that these guys are against the clock and sometimes other factors have an impact. What probably angers me most is that they tried to give it back to me in that state. The painter, the guys reassembling, the guy polishing would have all seen it and no-one did the right thing and call it out.

Teaser alert.. Tiefgreun 2.0 is almost done! The bodyshop are respraying the front and have flat and polished the rest so I’m happy. Took a few pics while there last week to remind myself what it looks like! It’s been too long and can’t wait to get it back.

Still looking for champagne or Sepang interior if anyone wants to sell or swap

Barty, Street,
Meet up at the Link hotel car park and drive into Zedfest from there.
Will then be parked up side by side

Green Tiefgruen Coupe - Rebuild

Post by Street » Sun May 28, 2023 9:50 am

I finally got the Green machine back from the paint shop. Still not perfect but good enough that I can hopefully take it from here. Some random photos below.

As some may have seen I’ve lost the B-Pillar trims on the 3 month debacle with the bodyshop. :headbang: Was it me, was it them, I’ll just have to suck it up. Hopefully have a set on the way from Germany :)

Yesterday I finally got the chance to fit the piano trim and some de-chromed pieces. I’m still looking for a champagne/Sepang interior but I’m not that unhappy with the black leather. Which way would you go?

Looks lovely, looks like it just needs a very light ‘refine’ to remove a few workshop buffer trails  8)

Looking very nice!! With that colour combo, if you get chance to grab a lighter interior colour it would probably just finish it off nicely.

There is a guy on here who has just dyed his cinnamon...not sure if you can dye dark to light but might be an option.
