New in these here parts….

Post by MAXTHEDOG » Mon Aug 22, 2022 5:12 pm

Hi All,
New on here, from N. Yorkshire, looking to buy and lurking around with the intention of gleaning information about Zeds as my knowledge is almost zero! More than likely an E89, and maybe a 2.5 or 3.0. But an E85 6 pot isn’t out of the question.
Presently owner of MY2k Jaguar XK8 4 litre, but getting a more and more irresistible itch for a convertible (not a big fan of XK8 ragtops). Also, they’re a bit smaller and would fit in the car space a bit better.
Cheers,
Michael

And unlike some from car dealers they have had loads of work done by the owner, ie suspension and brakes.

Hi & welcome

The forum is a great place & people are very willing to post links to adverts etc

Might I suggest coming up with a Needs & Wants list to share here as it will narrow things down if only for yourself

For example for me e89 (I needed the hard top) heated seats & not white or silver & a 2.5l were my non negotiable but I ended up with so much more

Hi PointedMarlin,
Thanks for the welcome. A needs and wants list is a good idea, thanks.
Quite like the oxblood(?) red leather with black, not a fan of silver either.
Cheers,
M

:D Enuff_zed,
Well I was hoping the sale of the Jag would cover most of the cost - it’s only just done 48k and I’ve had the head gasket and timing chain/tensioners replaced along with other stuff as and when. Got it’s MOT next month. :|
Cheers,
M.

Quick question from a newbie, although I appreciate every model of has its common‘issues’:
What is the reason for breaking springs?
Cheers,
M

Broken (helical) springs aren't only a Z4 problem.

So I bought a 35is with all the toys to play with.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

BMW rear springs are a known weak point, not just on Z4s but it's pretty common on 3 Series too.

If you do consider an E85 the facelift models use the same N52 engine as the 6 cylinder E89s, whereas the pre-facelifts use the earlier M54 which is slightly less powerful. BMW were a bit mean with standard equipment on E85s so it's definitely worth deciding on the Needs and Wants!

Then good luck finding the right one.
