GM5 questions

Post by bigwinn » Thu Aug 11, 2022 9:59 pm

Evening all

I’m trying to get to the bottom of Steve’s roof issue

We took the gm5 out for repair (usual eBay route) but it’s been returned as it’s a 12 star version

I’m confused as I didn’t think an 04 car would have that type of gm5

Gm5 for the car according to realoem is this:

I think I’ve asked before but what is unique between the gm5 and the car- I am sure you can’t swap units between cars as they need coding but is that just for the EWS/keys/central locking?

Cheers

Stuart

Not sure how it gets coded, but is it possible then that the one in it is the wrong one and not coded correctly anyway?
Maybe that's your issue?

Perhaps you'll need to consider getting one that's correct for the car in terms of age, then get it coded?

The GM5 is not programmed to the VIN. It is only "paired" to the key FOB to operate the central locking. I installed a GM5 from a 2007 E85 into my 03 E85 and after pairing my FOB it worked straight away.

Yes. I just paired my three keys to the GM5 using the standard key method.
