I have just become the proud owner of a 2009 Z4 2.0SE and look forward to reading helpful information on the Forum.
I have not found out much about my car yet but there are 2 initial items that I would like to ask please?
On the way back yesterday after picking up the car I found the steering was a bit strange. As I turned the wheel the steering got stiffer but straight ahead the car wandered a bit. The tyre pressures are correct but I have not checked the alignment (although the tyres are worn evenly across the width).
How could I check the power steering or is there something else that may be the cause?
Secondly, inside the engine bay the BMW roundal is badly discoloured and this seems to be stuck on. Is it possible to get a replacement as it does spoil the look of the engine bay. I realise this is a minor thing but I thought it was ok to ask!
Thanks,
Roy

Hi Roy and welcome the club (it's not a club really but sounds good).
That must be one of the last E85s produced you have there.
Others know about E85s but do a search for E85 steering issues, sounds like it is a common problem.
Are you talking about the badge on the engine cover? If so just measure it and look on eBay (or similar) for a flat-backed badge.
Edit: forgot to say you have to post pictures of your car, it's obligatory. We are all old and keep forgetting what these cars look like.

All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

Welcome to the forum, photos please. Might need 4 wheel alignment, made mine better. Also do you have run flat tyres?

Thank you for all the replies so far and the help received.
I am really embarrassed as my car is a 2007 and not a 2009 - put this down to old age or insanity!
I cannot find how to add a photo to my profile or my location so perhaps some kind person can advise an old man please?
Thanks

You can add files/photos by clicking on the 'add files' button just above the 'post reply' button. If it is a 2007 you may just come into the sticky steering problem, this is an adjustment thing under the dash.

Welcome aboard.
The badge on the panel in front of the engine was originally just a moulded one into the black plastic.
For authenticity you should peel off what remains of the coloured version somebody stuck on in the past.

Welcome to the forum Roy with your smart looking Z4.
A wandering feel to the steering seems to be a common problem. You'll find much more about it if you search "tramlining" in the E85/86 sections of the forum.
From what I have read the general consensus is that fitting non run-flat tyres helps no end, but it would be worth checking for any worn steering and suspension components too.
Good luck finding a solution.
