As long as you have the i and tick in the bottom left of the screen then you can purchase the update from BMW

Still don't understand why some have the tick and others don't, I know the tick allows USB update.....but why the difference?
Surely BMW have DVDs like I used?
Anyhoo, I don't have the tick and in my neck of the woods there is no update after 2020 for CIC, which I already have.
They seem to have dumped customers with "old" cars :o Mine is 2015 registered.
NBT and Evo have 2022 available.

Same as Honda did with my wife's 2015 Honda, no maps after 2018... ba*tards. And that upgrade cost me 150 quid

OK, so to clarify that a little more.....
Originally you couldn't just pop out an buy a USB with the new maps on it, you needed BMW to do it (that's for the CIC system, not the earlier CCC that had the DVD's). Then BMW changed this with a firmware update that allowed this to happen (public pressure?? I don't know), this then had the i and tick symbol. This meant that you could go to your local BMW dealer and purchase a USB stick with the latest maps on it, but you also needed an FSC code to be able to load this new map (either 1 year or lifetime), which weren't cheap.
As for a timeline, I'm not entierly sure when this happened. CIC was introduced in September 2008 to a lot of models (3, 5, 6 & 7 series) and then to the Z4 in April 2009. Now I've spoken to Z4 owners of early 2009's that don't have the i and tick, whereas my sons E93 is also a 2009 and his does have it, so it's a bit hit and miss and is dependednt on build date as to whether the headunit was the updated version.
Now if you took it to a BMW dealer (or good indi) then they can update the firmware in the headunit to the latest spec and then you can update the system.
I hope that helps

And the update from BMW seems to be £79.

Thanks guys. Am I correct in assuming a phone call to BMW or local indy because it's something I can't do.
That depends of course if i have the 'tick' or not.

If you have the tick then you can buy the map and FSC code and update it yourself
No tick requires a visit to BMW
