Part 8 above… how does one remove without resorting to hammer.

I want to remove phone holder and just replace with a mat.

Thanks

The screws that hold the whole tray in are under the phone holder.
The phone holder must be prised out before you can access the screws.
If you dont need the phone holder any more you could drill multiple holes through the top of it to access the clips that hold it in or just prise it up while protecting the rest of the tray until the clips holding it break.
There are a few pics somewhere on here of the underside of the cradle showing where the clips are.

Thanks all… makes some sense now.
I was just going to put a generic wireless charger in there, but now researching if there is a Bmw wireless adaptor that’ll sit there after reading the threads. Have to look in a bigger screen than iPhone to make it clearer…

This one is in stuart’s link from part number….But doesn’t say it’s e89 fit.

I can 100% guarantee that that wireless charger does fit the E89 Z4.... BUT, only if you have a standard size phone, definitely not though if you have a Plus size phone.

    Dave, thanks, bought that…

I assume when you fit my MMI box this stuff will need to come out anyways?

Maybe I’ll just gather bits and bring it to someone less likely to break stuff….

Not E89 but it seems the phone cradle can be levered out, then worry about cables :)

:headbang: yeah, a bodge! Sorry but you buy a £30k sports car and treat it like that :? It's simple to do it the right way.

You don't have a monopoly on mods Dave, if it works, it works. Installing Chinese junk into a 30K car could also be called a bodge....
For what it's worth, I do a lot of research before I take on a job, not just this forum

    Thanks

I couldnt see anything in that video that I would have said was bodged, he removed the phone cradle, unplugged the wires and put everything back the way it was and added the rubber tray.
Only thing I would say though is you will never lever out the E89 phone cradle as easy as that.

Woah!!! No you're dead right I don't have a monopoly on mods, never said I did, where the hell did that come from?
The problem with that video is that it's NOT transferable to the E89, you can't gain access to the wire connections, so prying the cradle out would be a waste of time. And not only that but some people are stupid enough to not buy the proper tools anyway and then shove a screwdriver in there. I've seen where Z4 owners have done this before, leaving the wires just shoved back down the hole and damaged trim, hence why I did my How-To
I've spent an hour before trying to get one of these out of an E89, it's not an easy job, you can break something very easily.

I think installing something into the car the proper way is never a bodge, even Chinese junk.

Never had a go at you Roddy so not sure why you've come back at me like that.

Well is another story of two common traits ..

So often on E89s they seem similar to other E90 era cars but then..not quite…always little differences and gotchas…

People shoot from the hip because they didn’t think it through / read the whole log / didn’t RTFM etc…

It’s a real pity when people who contribute so so much to this forum get shot out of the sky when a little common decency would be welcome….
We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard…
