Hello from Slovenia
Hi everyone,
i am Luka from Slovenia and i already own bwm f31 325d, now i got a good deal on Z4 2005 2.2 so i bought it. Car was without keys so first we sorted this and made 2 new keys with remote. When we managed to do this we started the car it was running on 4cyl so we changed 2 ignition coils and now all 6 cyl are working. Front bumper is damaged and it will be repaired and painted, also side fender has a dent and will be fixed without painting. Car is sitting on 18" alpina rims, front tyres are 225 40 18 and rear are 255 35 18. Interior is in beige color and is in good condition (big dash trim with look of wood has a crack and i need to fix it), roof also needs repairing. It opens only 1 cm, despite i can hear the motor running when button is pressed the roof is not moving. Car has 120.000km.
I already see this is a great community and i managed to find many useful informations.

Hello from Slovenia
Welcome aboard.
Great project you've taken on.
Your roof issue sounds very much as though the roof motor in the back has got wet and died.
There are dozens of threads on here about moving it into the boot, which would be your first step anyway. You may well then be able to revive it.
Bit far to come and help, but always ask here first as there are quite a few of us who have done this job already and can offer advice.
Good luck.

Hello from Slovenia
Just seen your chat with bigwinn about the roof.
If you are changing it all over then it will be much easier to access the motor, but I would still recommend you fit it into the boot for future maintenance and to keep it dry.

Hello from Slovenia
I will see if i get a good roof for a good price. Otherwise i will keep this one and maybe refresh it with some kind of fabric paint. I dont have any expiriences with this so i am gathering informations, i will also look here for topics like roof refurbish. I will also relocate the motor for pump in my boot like many of you already did. One thing i dont understand is that i can hear the electric motor so i am guessing it has not died or i am wrong? Also i hear a sound like something clicking when motor is running like a bowden cable ...

Hello from Slovenia
Maybe the motor is running but the pump is not working properly. Or possibly you have a hydraulic leak.
Won't know until it is all accessible sadly.
I have read stories of people using fabric paint and then the roof becomes difficult to fold properly, so be cautious of that approach.

Hello from Slovenia
Hi - Slovenia has some great roads and places to visit although not sure which part you live.
I drove to Lipica from UK 3 years ago in a 2.3 Z4 covering as many Alpine passes as we could fit in. ( I had promised my wife a trip to the Lipizaner Stud 20 years ago when I used to work in Slovenia ) It was so much fun I sold the 2.5 and bought a 3.0si - I plan to do the trip again once covid is over. We did 3000 miles in 2 weeks and nothing went wrong with the car.
It is not a huge job to remove the roof, , remove the motor and pump assembly and check to Hydraukic lines , you may have a kink or a leak.
I did this job on the 2.5 - it does take 2 people to actually lift off the roof but otherwise its a 1 man job.
I assume that you have some capabilities as you have bought a carthat needs work so good luch with the project
This article is a good place to start and Pelican parts web site do many technical articles and guides.

Hello from Slovenia
Rucky nice to hear this. Yes we have some really nice roads for cruising and the Alpine passes are something special. I would also recommend you to go from lipica to nova gorica and than to drive trought Soča valley up to north trought tolmin, kobarid, bovec. Than there is a road to Mangart, road to Vršič pass and road to Predel pass.
