Just had my renewal come though. They want £305 this year up from £235 last year. I can cancel and get a new quote with the same level of cover for £199
I thought insurance companies were not allowed to do that or does this not fall under the definition of insurance?
Can I cancel then take out a new policy or will it flag up on their system and stop me?

The legislation covers car (road traffic act) and home insurance, but breakdown cover is not included in the legislation (nor is pet insurance, gadget insurance, tyre insurance, or any of the other insurance products you can probably think of)

Without knowing what lever of cover Rockhopper is after, your £10/month may also be 'overpriced' if it's for the lowest level of cover :P

I don't even call to negotiate...I simply switch to another provider every year and use TopCashBack or Quidco for discounts.

I use Tesco club card points to get RAC membership, since I don't use them for much else it's effectively a free subscription.

I pay £ 13.-- a month with Nationwide with my Flexplus account.

This gives

UK & European Breakdown & Recovery.

Worldwide Family ,Travel insurance.

Worldwide Family Mobile phone insurance.

Identity Theft assistance.

Worldwide Emergency Card assistance.

I think that's good value :)

The reason for considering the AA again that I make lot of use of the discounts their membership gives you (20% off pub grub for example)

I'm looking at Auto Aid now though for around £75 for the same level of cover as the AA - but no discounts!

just phone them up, they'll reduce it back down to something 'reasonable'.

I was with the AA for years with other cars but then switched to greenflag, however they don't cover older cars so I have a single car policy with the AA for the zed

RAC kept doing this to me, until a few years ago I got a quote as a new customer from the AA.

Called the RAC and they managed to beat it, so I do the same every year now!

It's still a PITA though.
