So this is a really stupid one. No idea why bmw don’t provide the g29 with homelink, but I actually miss it.
Obviously I’m not going to install homelink into the car and while I could go the route of installing Alexa control to the gate it will be a hassle as I would need to install WiFi extenders.

So my question to you wise folk is where can I stick my fob that will be with in reach, discrete and I can tape it into place?

I’m looking for ideas people! You guys are the smartest and the best out there!

Well, I don’t have a clue as to what ‘homelink’ is, even after Google.

All I have in this respect is a remote control with two buttons, one operates my drive gates and the other my garage doors. Simple, it’s all I need. As to where the fob resides, it’s usually somewhere in the centre console, no probs :D

John,

On the e89 I had 3 buttons under the mirror which you could program to open garage/gate etc…… for some reason this option wasn’t available on the g29. No idea why.

Ah, right, I didn’t know about the buttons on the E89 despite owning 3 of them. Sounds very useful.

I’m not aware of anything like that on my G29.

According to page 223 of the manual, the G29 has Homelink.

I think this is option 319 ('universal remote control'), which is listed as standard equipment in the US and Canada price guide (at least, the 2019 version I found online) but doesn't show up at all in the UK one. Didn't realise it was ever offered on any UK spec BMWs, to be honest - thought it was primarily an American feature like remote start!

I have never needed these even though I have it on the X5M as we manufacture Gate and Garage control systems so it works on the car (phone) GPS location 8)

If you do want a button, you can use a Flic button for that purpose which again connects via bluetooth to your phone.

If you have an override switch for the gate in the house, you don't need WIFI at the gate as it can trigger at that point instead. You don't need WIFI extenders in any case as you can also use Ethernet over Power connectivity (£30 at Amazon) if you do need to get internet at the gate.

There are other options as well but that would be advertising my products which I will refrain from :D
Current:
911-50 Black - unique spec
X5M - 575 hp of fun in a V8
Abarth 595 Comp.
Golf Clipper - collectors item
Z4 3.0si Black Sapphire
VW ID.3

Previous:
Z4M Silver Grey - non flimper spec (gone to Bing)
Z4 3.0 Toledo
