Differential noisy

Post by Bumwah » Thu Jun 30, 2022 10:08 am

Hi all. I have a problem with the diff. The noise is getting worse.
Is there any suggestions on how to reduce this noise apart from replacing it.
Many thanks in advance.

How do you know it's the diff? I take it you changed the fluid?

If it is definitely the diff and it is getting worse then I'm afraid you just have the one option.
I had a friend with an old Cortina many years ago who decided to just turn the radio up.
On a busy roundabout it seized and helped him wipe out three other cars and give at least two people whiplash injuries.

Problem is that buying a used diff could put you back in a similar situation soon after. If its noisy, then no amount of oil changes will fix this. I suspect a refurbished diff is possible. Most gearbox places , I am sure, can source bearings and seals and will start again with a clean internals and fresh oil.
