As someone fortunate enough to have both on the drive I would suggest you don't try to compare.
Thats exactly my thoughts. I will enjoy it for what it is. Wanting something a little more compliant as I’m planning to use it for weekend getaways with my wife. They are two different cars, designed for different things (in my opinion anyway)
My remapped 20iS gets close to the same fun but not quite there, and definitely not that same soundtrack.
Enjoy the E89 for what it is. If you are not constantly thinking how your E85 would have been in the same situation then you will find the E89 a great car in its own right.

If we are going away for a few days, for a decent distance, then it's the E89.
If I finish work and we fancy an evening blast to a pub then it's Vall's E85 every time!
The early model N20 engine suffers from timing chain issues. Not all but more than there should be.
