Please help!!! FOUR YELLOW LIGHTS on dashboard!

Post by Mr_E85Bim » Tue Jun 21, 2022 11:09 pm

Ahhh it seems to be one thing after another with this car :headbang:

Driving down the street all fine and then BOOM four yellow lights appear after a beep. The DSC ABS TPS and Handbrake, all in yellow.

I found other posts on here that seem to be a few years old. I don't feel like any of them got to the bottom of it. One referred to changing wheel sizes. I did the same a couple of weeks ago. Perhaps this is the cause?

If anyone knows the answers, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Have you scanned the car?

try reading the codes, if you have a code reader, then you'll have something of a basis to work from

To do with abs sensors, reluctor rings and possibly the yaw sensor.

If you are handy get the abs sensors cleaned. Then the reluctor rings.

They may need replacing rather than cleaning. At least when you clean them you can see what nick they are in.

Yaw sensor is under the passenger seat. It can get corroded from water ingress thanks to flooding from the door membrane or rear drain where the motor is.

A scanner may help tell you which abs sensor is causing the fault. That way you can just clean or replace that one along with its reluctor ring

When I had all four it was an ABS sensor.
When the yaw sensor went I didn't get the tyre pressure light, just the other three.
The yaw sensor is under the drivers seat in actual fact.

As already mentioned, a decent scanner will lead you to the right corner.
If the speedo is working you can ule out NSR.

As a thought, were any of your old wheels stuck on and needed a hammering?
That did for one of my ABS sensors when I had to hammer a disc off.

As others have said, best thing to do is plug a scanner in. Like one of these:

Where abouts are you based?

Where abouts are you Bim?
I'm sure many members have carly that live near by - That said I am totally assuming carly would pick this code up?

I think I had a similar light array once, it turned out to be my ABS pump. I got it reconditioned in the end. I can't quite remember how much it cost, I want to swing at £800 ~ £1300 I think a new pump was nearer ~£1600
Sorry my memory is terrible!

The ABS pump went in the Alps, so just had to suck it up and be careful for the rest of the trip! Luckily it was the summer, so roads were dry!

Thanks gents!

Appreciate the guidance as always.

I do not have a scanner. I am based in Central London, south of Rotherhithe tunnel. Do let me know if you're local plss

I will research where the abs sensor is and give it an inspection/clean. Hopefully that will do the trick. I may have knocked it while I was changing the wheels

One on each wheel. Follow the cable from the inner side of the wheel arch and you'll see where it plugs into a hole in the hub, where it counts the amount of teeth/gaps on the reluctor ring that pass it in a certain time span.
Apart from making sure there's no crud on it, the simplest answer is to scan and see if any of the four are giving a fault code.
Sorry, bit far from Norfolk or I'd happily help out.

Just a thought but how old is your battery?

Dying batteries in BMWs throw up all sorts of random warning lights!

I got 3 of your 4 in my MC when the battery went flat last year then a TPMS one that wouldn't reset in my 3 Series a month ago that a new battery cured.
Coupes because stunning!
Current - Silver Grey MC, Imola Red heated Nappa & carbon trim. Aeros, H & R Coil-overs, 224s, OE Strut brace, Nav, cup-holders, DSP Hi-Fi, pdc, cruise, MFSW, no CDV! E90 330i daily
Gone - Montego Blue
Gone - Ruby Black

Thanks Tidy!

I should be popping down to Halfords tomorrow so I'll ask them to check it. Although, I did have them check it a couple of months ago when I was having problems with the alarm :headbang:

If you are going to keep your Z4 you really should invest in a code reader - it will save you lots of time, money and misinformation.
This is how the ABS system works. They are prone to faikure but you need to know which one. It could also be the ABS pump which will cost you a lot more to fix but this is a start if you dont know how these systems work :

What is the point of asking for advice if you are going to ignore it in favour of heading to Halfords of all places?
