Greetings, had a look around and it seems a very helpful and knowledgeable group.
Thanks for the add.

I've been driving my 30 year old Eunos but my head has been turned by the early Z4's.

Totally confused as to which one to buy.
It seems a six cylinder is the way to go but I'm an old git and wouldn't use that power often enough. The 2.0 sounds sensible bit I'm not often described that way.

Originally taken by the earlier models but now fancying a facelift.

Hoping that reading this forum will clear my head 🤔🤠

Hi and welcome on board. Love our Mx5s in this household. If your looking at the E85 then I would say go for a Six. The later E89 cars though have a very tuneable 4 pot at the, so called, base of the range, that gets much praise here.

Thanks for your replies and suggestions.

Currently traveling in a motorhome but will be back in NW England soon.
The Z4's first journey is likely to be back to Turkiye.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

For me a straight 6 engine is one of the things that is unique to Z4s, but there are people on here who are happy with their 2 litre 4s.

Pre-facelift 6s came as 2.2i, 2.5i and 3.0i but only the 3.0i had a 6-speed gearbox. Facelift 6s are 2.5i, 2.5Si and 3.0Si all with a 6-speed gearbox.
Early E89s also had 2.5 and 3 litre options, but for some reason BMW called them 23i and 30i. :?

M-Sport seats are highly sought-after but rarely found in pre-facelifts, however they were standard in facelift Sport models.

Good luck searching when you are home.

Thanks Mr Tidy
It'll have to be an automatic to save my arthritic wrist, a proper old git. 😂

I'm pretty sure an Auto box was offered on all the ones I mentioned.

I won't ask how you got arthritis in your wrist.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

A lot will depend on your budget. You can pick up a passable pre-LCI 2.5i (lots around) for around £2k whereas a low mileage 3.0Si (not many) could set you back £10k+. 2.0ltr prices seem to have a life of their own, with some very fanciful prices being asked on the likes of autotrader. Don’t be afraid of 100k+ miles, as well-maintained M54 and N52 engines seemingly go on forever. All the common problems and preventative maintenance are extensively documented on this forum.

Thanks Zebedee, I have been looking on autotrader and I agree it must be a six pot and the 2.5 seems the way to go.

Cheeky Mr Tidy but it's the other wrist, I never counted enough to change hands!
🤣🤣🤣🤣

Yep, this is a good place ,🤠😎

I keep forgetting not everyone is left-handed!

A 2.5 litre sounds like a good idea - anything smaller might be a bit disappointing with an Auto.

Yep, it has to be a six cylinder, daft not to and a 2.5 will have sufficient grunt for an old git.
Can't wait to get on the Turkiye roads 😍

My regret was buying 2.2 instead of 3.0, but then when I was driving I thought about that and noticed that I just listen to the engine sound with the roof down and don't really look at the current speed. :D
Anyway, I also drove that 2.2 220km/h so it is currently fast enough for me.

Edit: The point is, as the others have already said to get the 6 pot.

Pre or post facelift?
