Spark plugs

Post by Beemingallover » Wed Jun 15, 2022 2:36 pm

My wife has a 2009 Z4 E89 2.3 idrive 49k mls, at what mileage do you change the spark plugs? It has had annual oil services despite low use.
Thanks.

On a 'mild' tune engine like that 60,000 km is the usual BMW quoted..some places suggest 100,000 km..

Personally I'd go for 60k kms..
We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard..

Are you doing it yourself? If so it costs next to nothing so you may as well do it every 6 years or every 60k whatever is sooner.

If you're paying someone else double check they actually changed them. A lot of mechanics don't bother

I believe mugs can also be routinely changed, there’s a bulletin somewhere if you search google :P

When my car went in for a service, they wanted to change the plugs - It had about 10k on the clock!

So I bought a 35is with all the toys to play with.

Turbo charged cars eat plugs faster..N54 is a notorious plug chomper..hence their prudence…

25k miles is the normal recommendation for N54 plugs..

Maybe they took one look at you and reckoned you were running extra boost? :tumbleweed:

(As a footnote, it’s just turned over 15k and due an oil service post Summer/Germany trip)
